Wednesdays Biscuits

Good morning to all again as we creep closer to MSU and South Carolina opening up a crucial SEC series:
First Biscuit: Yesterday I talked to a team spokesman for the MSU basketball team and I asked about the progress of Jalen Steele and his ACL injury. Steele is now off crutches and I was told that it is hard to even tell he just had surgery and walked with only a small limp. Steele has started his rehab process and he is expected to make it back by September, which is still a few weeks before they start practice. And on the 2011-2012 schedule, no new games to report yet but the schedule is much further long at this point than it was this time last year with the 2010-11 slate.

Second Biscuit: On Monday I spoke with one of Devante Harris' coaches about his recruitment. Harris, a junior corner from Mesquite, Texas, just picked up an offer from Kansas State on Monday to go along with previous offers from MSU, Virginia, MSU and North Texas. Also close to offering could be Oklahoma and Texas is also starting to show a little interest. Harris is currently favoring SMU after favoring MSU early on. That could still change with MSU cause Harris said he was still planning to visit MSU this summer and bring his parents to MSU, too. He still wants to make his decision sometime this summer.
Third Biscuit: Yesterday I talked with Plano West, Texas, junior olb/de Bryce Cottrell. He has offers from MSU, Syracuse and Baylor and just visited Syracuse this past weekend. He said he also expects Arizona to offer soon and said Southern Cal was showing interest. He has been invited to a Southern Cal 'rising star' camp in June and he plans to go to that and may also come to a MSU camp. He still has no leader and is treating every school the same.
Fourth Biscuit: On Monday I talked with North Pike (Miss.) junior defensive end A.J. Jefferson. He has not visited any school since going to MSU's junior day and he has offers from MSU, Ole Miss, USM, Louisiana-Lafayette and Memphis. He said he plans to camp at MSU, Ole Miss, USM and ULL and will try to also make it to Memphis. He said he is leaning toward staying in the state for college and said he still has a good relationship with MSU and their coaches.
Fifth Biscuit: And over the weekend I spoke with Powell, Tenn., junior quarterback Dustin McPhetridge (6-2, 220), who rushed for over 1,000 yards last year and also passed for over 1,000 yards. He said MSU, Middle Tennessee State and Western Kentucky were showing him interest right now and he attended MSU's spring game. He said MSU just started showing interest and that Coach Mullen of MSU had called his coaches. He said he was definitely attending camps at MSU and MTSU this summer and likes the spread offense at MSU.
And for the gravy on top: Continuing with our academic updates on MSU 2011 football signees, I spoke with Stone County head coach Brian Oakes yesterday about the progress of Darion Arrington. He said Arrington lacked just a couple of points on his overall ACT core score to make that needed step. He said Dee has not gotten back his last ACT results so he may or may not have to take the test again in June. And he is on track with his class room grades. No he is not made it yet but it is good news that he is closing in.
