Walley focused on weight

Greene County (Miss.) High School rising senior Gus Walley was often the go-to option on offense last fall, and he totaled 50 catches for 903 yards and 12 touchdowns. This summer, the 6-foot-4 and 218-pound tight end prospect is seeking to improve his skills on the camp circuit.
"Things have gone pretty good this summer and I have been to some camps like at Mississippi State," said Walley.

"And I have some more camps to go to and I am just getting ready for my last year of high school. I am going back to Mississippi State for the Big Dawg Camp and then I am also going to a Southern Miss camp. Then I have an IGA Academy/John Madden camp on July 29-31 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
"I am just working on my speed and working on putting on a lot of weight. I am 218 pounds right now and the college coaches tell me the main thing is for me to put weight on."
Walley has already collected a trio of Division I offers, and noted of the strong interest he is receiving from Mississippi State.
"I have offers from Louisiana-Lafayette, Southern Miss and UAB," said Walley. "Then the main interest I am getting is from Mississippi State and that's about it as far as schools that have not offered. I get letters from Nebraska but I haven't gotten any phone calls from them yet."
Recruited as a receiving tight end, Walley holds no secret about how much an offer from Mississippi State would mean to him.
"I did pretty good at their first camp this summer and I loved it up there," said Walley. "Their coaches said they loved my performance and told me I just had to put on more weight, and that is what I've been working on since that camp. They said they were close to offering and they just want to see if I can put on weight in a certain amount of time.
"It was great when they told me they wanted to see me again at Big Dawg Camp. I grew up a State fan so it would be great to get that offer and I would love to play there."
