Recruiting heating up for CJ Avery

The recruitment of Grenada (Miss.) safety CJ Avery has been picking up some serious steam as of late.

With spring ball in full force, a boatload of schools have come in to see Avery. When he talked with BulldogBlitz.com, he couldn't remember all of the schools that came in because there have been so many. He did recall that Notre Dame, California, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Alabama did come in to see him.

"It's going pretty good," Avery said of his recruitment. "It's going really fast, a lot of schools are coming at me."

A lot of the top prospects in Mississippi narrow things down and choose from Alabama, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss. Those three schools have been very active with Avery, and they could be considered the best bets to land him, but Avery says that he's open to all suitors.

"I'm pretty much open to anybody," he said. "It's nice to stay in-state, but if the place is right out of state, then I'll go there."

Mississippi State safeties coach Maurice Linguist is Mississippi State's lead recruiter of Avery.

"The person I've talked to the most there is coach Linguist," said Avery. "We've built a great relationship. We're talking every other day."

Avery visited Mississippi State a couple of days after their spring game.

"It went great. They showed me around and a lot about the campus," Avery said. "They showed me things about my major. I talked with the coaches and interacted with coach Mullen for a long time."

Earlier this week, Avery made big news by committing to play in the Under Armour All-American Game next January.

"I was very excited when I found out that they invited me. Growing up seeing the game, I felt like I wanted to commit to it and play in it. I'm looking forward to it."
