Perkins named SEC Freshman of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. - For the second week in a row, a Mississippi State football player earned a weekly award from the Southeastern Conference. After Derek Sherrod was named offensive lineman of the week following the Bulldogs' victory over Georgia, redshirt freshman LaDarius Perkins was named freshman of the week by the league office today.
Perkins, a native of Greenville, Miss., rushed a career-high 10 times for 48 yards and his first career touchdown in Mississippi State's 49-16 win over Alcorn State on Saturday. He led the team in rushing attempts with 10 carries and took direct snaps from center for the first time this season. Perkins scampered for a 30 yard gain in the fourth quarter before scoring from two yards out two plays later.
The Bulldogs travel to the University of Houston this week to play a second-consecutive non-conference game. The tilt will be televised by CBS College Sports and kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
