Offers rolling in for Ducksworth

North Forrest (Miss.) High School's Lelland Ducksworth has enjoyed quite the success rate, and that rate continued last week during a pair of camp visits. The 6-foot-2 and 215-pound linebacker prospect attended camps at Ole Miss and Memphis and left those campuses with new offers.

Ducksworth also holds other offers from Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech and Louisiana-Lafayette.

"I went down to Ole Miss and Memphis and got offered by both of them," said Ducksworth. "Memphis' camp was okay and their head coach (Larry Porter) is a real cool guy and so is coach Jay Hopson. Both of them are real nice to talk to.

"And I liked it, too, at Ole Miss and they will probably be one of my top schools battling with Mississippi State. I am not saying that one school has a lead but I do know the coaches more at Mississippi State and I know every single coach at State pretty well. I have been to Mississippi State a lot of times and that was my second trip to Ole Miss."

Starting tomorrow, Ducksworth will continue his camp tour and then later go visit a couple of Florida schools showing interest.

"I am going to Mississippi State on Friday and our whole team is going to their 7-on-7 camp," said Ducksworth. "I am also going to Florida State on June 20th. The coaches at Miami are also asking me to come down there so I am trying to work things out to go to Miami, too."

Early on in his recruitment, Ducksworth said there was a point where he got a bit discouraged when the offers were not coming in his direction. But obviously that has changed of late.

"I won't lie," said Ducksworth. "At first when you started getting recruited and see other guys getting big offers, it makes you want to put your head down and you start to feel bad. But when you start talking to these coaches and they start offering, it makes you feel good.

"I am not the type of person that goes around telling people how great I am as a player and brag about what I can do on the field. I am just a football player trying to do as well as I can for my team. So when coaches encourage you and you get the big offers, it does make you feel better. But it also means that I have to prove myself over and over again so I can keep those offers. I have to keep getting better so I have the opportunity to choose a great program."

And choosing that particular program is something that may happen in the near future.

"I am not sure just yet," said Ducksworth. "But I have been thinking that I won't wait until my senior season and I want to do it by the end of the summer. I will evaluate all these schools and get to know the coaches. So I might have my decision before the summer ends or do it very early in my senior year. I really don't play to wait that long to decide."
