Mississippi State leads for in-state defensive end

THE LATEST: Jack Harris returned to Starkville (Miss.) over the weekend and it is like his second home. His sister goes to school there, so he has visited Mississippi State over 20 times.

The old staff under Dan Mullen offered the 6-foot-4, 235 pound defensive end out of Hattiesburg (Miss.) Oak Grove, but the new staff met with him Saturday and made sure he knew he was a priority for them too.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: "This was my first time meeting the new staff and it was great," said Harris. "I like them a lot and they have a lot to offer Mississippi State for me.

"My opinion of the new staff is that I like them a ton and I think all of the coaches are great men and great coaches. The new staff is very different from the old staff in which they expect to win the SEC Championship and go on to win the National title.

"The highlight of my visit was just getting to know the coaching staff better and to see what they’re planning on doing with me at the position they were put me at. The new staff made me feel very important in which they really were one on one with me. I had some great talks with coach Joe Moorhead.

"The coaches kept saying we need you and they said, you don’t know it yet, but you are going to be a bulldog.

"I really like Mississippi State and they are at the top of my list right now."

RIVALS REACTION: The Bulldogs are in a great spot with Harris, one of the top prospects in a very strong 2019 Mississippi class. He has a family connection there, so it will be hard for other schools to compete with that. He may not be too far from making a decision too. Once could come this spring. He looks for coaches who engage with him on visits and Mississippi State did just that Saturday. He is set to visit Alabama and LSU in the coming weeks, so he is going to give other schools a fair shot, but Mississippi State will not be easy to beat.
