Mississippi State has the attention of Ole Miss commit Jacquez Jones

THE LATEST: A week and a day after committing to Ole Miss, Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Hillcrest linebacker Jacquez Jones hit the road to Starkville (Miss.). He was in attendance Saturday night when Mississippi State put a whoopin' on LSU 37-7.

The visit went very well for the 6-foot-1, 225 pound senior and the Bulldogs are still on his mind.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: "This was the best visit I have ever been on," said Jones. "I knew their defense was good, but how they played surprised me. It really opened me eyes.

"What made it the best visit was the crowd, the defense and how everything just came together. I really liked how the Mississippi State defense just shut down the LSU offense.

ATTENTION FROM COACHES: "I also got to talk to the coaches — coach [Todd] Grantham (defensive coordinator), coach [Billy] Gonzales (wide receivers) and coach [Pat] Austin (Recruiting specialist) spent time with me. They all were saying how this could be me out there and how nothing has changed even though I am committed to Ole Miss.

"The coaches made me feel good. I felt wanted, and at the same time, I felt needed. Everything just felt right.

WHERE HE STANDS: "I am still interested in Mississippi State and I will be taking an official visit there. I am still committed to Ole Miss, but I am going to keep taking visits to make sure of things."

RIVALS REACTION: Jones picked Ole Miss over Mississippi State Friday September 9th. It was close — very close. He was at Mississippi State about a week before he committed, then he was back a week after. This is something to watch. These two schools will likely be fighting for one of the best in Alabama in the coming months.
