Lance Fremin Commitment Comments

As posted on Bulldog Blitz.com earlier today, Starkville High’s two way lineman Lance Fremin had a big announcement to make. “I committed to the Mississippi State Bulldogs,” he said. Lance shares his thoughts on his commitment.
"State has always been in the top three choices of going to a division one school, and living in Starkville for over five years now, I've grown to like Starkville, and I’ve grown to like State a lot," Lance commented one of the biggest decisions he will face. "I know from my dad being a former coach over at Mississippi State, I know a lot of coaches and know them real well, and they are very nice, and they keep in touch with their players. I just like Mississippi State overall as a school.

"It is a fun school to be at, and I am still here with my friends and stuff like that, my family. I mean it is just a very good school, and that is the reason I picked it." Lance had received calls from Ole Miss, Southern Miss, and Stephen F. Austin recently, and had received an offer from Louisiana-Monroe before making his call.
Mississippi State has also offered Lance a player to pattern his style of play after. "Being a lineman, one of my favorite players, and he was a player at State too, was Randy Thomas," he said. "I really liked Randy Thomas, and I hope to grow to be just like him."
Previous friendships will also be a bonus at the next level, as former Starkville High teammate and current Bulldog, Tee Milons will attest. "We are real close," Lance commented on his relationship with Milons. "Ever since I was in the ninth grade, and he was in the tenth grade, we have been close ever since. Last year we were real good friends, playing on the same team and being on the state championship together. We know each other real well."
Lance's dad, Jerry, coached the offensive line at MSU, and Lance said his father has had a big influence on him. "My dad, man, is a really good coach and a father to me," Lance commented.
"He was always at my games telling what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. He’s pretty much taught me everything I needed to know about the game of football.
"Anything I was asking him was the right question, it was never wrong. I give him credit for getting this division one scholarship, because he taught me everything I know. It has been a real plus having him as a football coach and as a father."
"I am real aggressive and I have a mean streak," Lance commented on his style of play. "I like to go out and play football. I love to play football. It is something I have always been doing. I have been around it since I was born."
Lance says his personality changes once he hits the field. "At school I might be the nicest person, the most sensitive guy, but when I go out on the field, it is a whole new me," he said passionately.
"I just love to go out there and have fun, that is the main thing. I give my best every single play and every single quarter."
Although a versatile lineman, Lance has no doubt as to where he will play in college. "Coach Sherrill told me when he offered me, that what I would have to play is center," Lance stated. He squats 495 pounds and bench presses 300 pounds as an offensive guard and defensive end in high school, and although they don’t keep up with stats this year, he had 115 pancake blocks last year. He has graded out every game this season at over 85 % on the offensive line.
A mere 6-2 and 270 pounds, Lance’s thoughts concur with that of previous statements by his coach. "I feel like I am 6-5, 300, but I am only 6-2, 270, but when I go out on the field, I feel that noone can stop me. When I am out there pulling, or when I am out there blocking base, head on, I feel that a person can’t stop me, no matter what.
"No matter if he is 6-5, 300, I am still going to be lower off the ball, and I can beat him and push him off the ball. I just feel nobody can stop me, and on the field I am a leader."
Coaches' sons are no stranger to Starkville High, and one of the state's top prospects for 2004 also resides in Starkville, in Bulldog Coach Mike Grant’s son, Heath. What kind of relationship does Lance have with this future star?
"Me and Heath are really good friends," He said. "We are like best friends. Our dads game here the same year and we have been friends ever since. If he goes to State next year, we plan to get a room together and all that stuff. We have already talked about that and all that stuff. He’s my best friend."
Starkville High has been a bonus to lots of schools in the SEC and maybe, the Tide is turning in the hometown team's favor. Regardless, the Bulldogs have found a prize in this year's catch with hometown favorite, Lance Fremin.
