Holloway camping in Starkville

So far this summer, Alonso (Tampa, Fla.) High School's Brandon Holloway has not left his homestate for a college football camp. But that will change later this week for the versatile 2012 prospect who has already camped at Miami and Florida.

"I am going to Mississippi State's Big Dawg Camp on Friday," said the 5-foot-9 and 160-pound Holloway. "Then after I leave there I am heading to Vanderbilt to visit them. Things are going really good with both of those schools and I talk to their coaches a lot. Vanderbilt has great academics and Mississippi State has a great engineering program and that is one of the majors I am thinking about doing. Vanderbilt is looking to step it up this year and Mississippi State is already on the way up."

Holloway owns offers from both of those SEC programs as well as numerous others, including Arizona State, Iowa State, Colorado State, Temple and Central Florida. He added that visiting MSU and Vanderbilt this week will help give him a better idea of where he stands with those SEC programs.

"It will help a lot because those are two of my top schools I am thinking about," said Holloway, who has played running back, receiver and kick returner in high school. "I was hoping to make a decision by the end of the summer so taking these visits could help that.

"I still have some other schools I want to see like Iowa State and Temple. But I just have to see how it all works out. It will be tough because I want to make my decision once the summer is over with."

Also on Holloway's agenda is preparing for his final campaign on the prep level. Also a track standout at Alonso High School, Holloway said taking on a leadership role is one of his major goals this season.

"I have really worked on getting bigger and stronger this offseason and I want to be at a good weight in college," said Holloway. "I am also focused on getting our younger players ready to step up and help them learn the system."
