High Goals for McCorvey

Vancleave's Jerry McCorvey posted some impressive numbers as a junior in 2010, collecting 143 tackles with 10 tackles for loss and recovered three fumbles. Looking towards next fall, the linebacker/defensive end has more lofty goals in mind.
"I want to get over 200 tackles," said the 6-foot-3 and 220-pound McCorvey. "I believe I can reach that number because of the offseason work we are putting in this year. More importantly, reaching that goal would mean more team success and it would help the team more. We want to go further than just the first round of the playoffs next year and we all have to work harder to do that.

"I am working more on my strength and my speed and I am focused just on football this spring. I have to get to the ball faster next year and I also have to be a better leader for my team."
McCorvey has also been active checking out SEC programs of late, having attended junior days at Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
"Both of those trips were nice," said McCorvey. "Both of them were good visits and I enjoyed both trips. I don't have any other junior days planned right now but I might go check out some schools in spring practice. Then I will see more schools my senior year, too."
While waiting for his initial verbal offer, McCorvey is drawing his share of interest from the likes of MSU, Ole Miss, LSU, Tennessee and Southern Miss.
"No offers yet but a few schools are showing me a lot of interest," said McCorvey. "But out of everybody, Mississippi State is showing me the most interest. They haven't talked to much about my position and I am not sure of they are recruiting me as a defensive end or a linebacker. We mainly just talk about their program and their plans for their program."
And in the early going, McCorvey said State's interest is a two-way street.
"Mississippi State is standing out because they are showing the most interest," said McCorvey. "I just feel at home there and real comfortable. They told me they want to see more of me this spring before offering and I am looking forward to that."
