Starkville, Miss. - Mississippi State junior Marcus Green was named Monday to the Mackey Award preseason watch list. Given annually to the best collegiate tight end, the John Mackey Award will be announced on December 9, 2010.
A native of Scooba, Miss., Green emerged as the Bulldogs' primary pass-catching tight end during his sophomore season as he hauled in 27 passes for 306 yards and three touchdowns. He pulled in five catches for 100 yards and a score against LSU, and caught two balls for 25 yards and a TD in State's Egg Bowl victory.
NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.
