Goins hearing from the SEC

With 101 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss and three sacks, in 2010, Gulfport (Miss.) junior Jamison Goins is accustomed to delivering big hits on the defensive side of the ball. Looking ahead to his senior year, the 6-foot-2 and 245-pound Goins is looking to spread his talents around on defense.
"I played linebacker last year and it was a good year," noted Goins. "But I may try some defensive end this year, too, and we just have to wait and see how all of that goes. I am still waiting on track to end and I throw the shotput and discus. Once track is over, I will be out there full-time in football and that will be good."

So far this spring, Goins is hearing from several SEC schools concerning his talent. Among that group is both SEC programs from the Magnolia State as well as Southern Miss.
"I am getting interest from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU and Arkansas," said Goins. "Ole Miss has said I have an offer and I would say the three in-state schools are showing me the most interest. So far, Coach (Les) Koenning from State has come to see me and so did Coach Mathews from Southern Miss and Coach Price from Ole Miss."
And before those schools paid him a visit this spring, Goins checked out those programs during spring practice.
"I went to see Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss and saw their spring games," said Goins. "Mississippi State has a real big camps and I loved seeing all those fans and hearing those cowbells at their game. They did a lot more hitting than Ole Miss did.
"It was fun at Ole Miss, too, and they also have a nice campus. I really liked the way their coaches treat their players and that stood out to me. And at Southern Miss, they have good facilities and it was actually better than I thought it would be."
Later this year, Goins is planning return trips to the in-state programs in hopes of keeping their attention in summer camps.
"I know I am going to a few camps this summer," said Goins. "Me and (Gulfport teammate) Travon Travis are going to Mississippi State, Alabama, Ole Miss and Southern Miss. It should be a fun summer and I just want to improve in every area of my game and pick up a lot of new techniques at camps."
