Farmer headed to Big Dawg Camp

Last year Harrison Central (Miss.) High School struggled to a 1-9 campaign and dropped its last eight games of the 2010 campaign. But if the offseason is any indication, 2012 offensive lineman prospect Brandon Farmer expects a better showing this fall from the Red Rebels.

And Farmer is willing line up wherever his talents are needed this fall.

"I know for a fact we will do better than last year," said the 6-foot-3 and 290-pound Farmer. "Everyone is working a lot harder in the weight room and in work outs. The main thing is everyone has a more positive attitude than last year.

"I will be playing on both sides of the line and I want to be able to contribute at any spot I can. My dad is the Dline coach and he helps me out a lot and told me they need my help over there. So I will do whateve I can to help out our team."

In recruiting, Farmer currently owns an offer from Louisiana-Lafayette and is also drawing interest from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Arkansas State. He also recently went to Auburn's camp last weekend.

"I just got back not long ago from Auburn's camp," said Farmer. "Then I have Mississippi State's camp coming up on Friday. I did pretty good at Auburn and there were a lot of good players there."

Farmer's trip to MSU will be his second this summer and he enjoyed a solid showing at his previous MSU camp stop.

"It feels good to get invited to their elite camp on Friday," said Farmer. "Coach Les Koenning told me he only invited a few players from the coast area and that I was one of them. So that is a big deal to me. They told me I was one of their top guys on their offensive line board and that they wanted to see me again.

"They are recruiting me as an offensive guard and as a center, and that is good with me. I just look forward to going back to Mississippi State and I can't wait."

Along with staying active in the weight room, Farmer has also worked on other aspects of his game up front. And he is hoping his improvements lead to more Division I offers.

"I feel I have improved my pass-blocking and my footwork," said Farmer. "Those things are a lot better than this time last year. And it has helped my confidence by doing well at these camps and I feel I can beat anybody I go against. I feel I am one of the better players on the coast. I just have to wait and see how these camp goes and I will just do the best I can."
