Familiar offer for Banks

Originally from Port Gibson, Miss., Dominique Banks grew up watching the likes of Mississippi State and Ole Miss on the gridiron. Now living in Denton, Texas, and playing defensive end for Ryan High School, Banks got an offer from his native state on Wednesday afternoon.
The 6-foot-3 and 255-pound Banks collected an offer from Mississippi State to go along with previous offers from Colorado, New Mexico, Arkansas State and North Texas.

"It felt good to get an offer from my home state," said Banks, who moved to Texas in the eighth grade. "I still have a lot of family in Mississippi and I grew up watching Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
"My coach told me they had liked what they saw on my film and I've been talking to Coach Melvin Smith from Mississippi State. So I had somewhat of an idea they were gonna offer me."
Banks added he plans to check out the Bulldogs' gridiron program next month.
"I will be there for camp in June," said Banks, who is also drawing interest from Virginia. "I look forward to the camp and looking around their school and campus to see how it is."
Currently going through spring practice, Banks said he is anxious for his senior year to start. After playing somewhat in the background last year, Banks said he wants to make a statement this year.
"The guy in front of me last year is now going to Louisiana Tech," said Banks. "So my coaches told me it was my time to shine and prove to college coaches I can play. And a lot of schools have stopped by to see me and (Florida State commitment) Mario Edwards and it's good to have this opportunity now."
Concerning his collegiate decision, Banks said he has no plans to make a rash decision despite holding a few offers now. But he did note he may have his decision made before he opens his final year of high school.
"I am kinda taking my time right now," said Banks. "But I am very interested in Mississippi State and it's good that I have an opportunity to go back to Mississippi. So I will probably decide before my senior year and just see what all happens this summer."
