Decision looming for Coman

The time has come. Some players want to wait all the way to signing day for the excitement and the mystery of a hat ceremony.

Not Kivon Coman.

The 6-foot-1,185-pound safety from Florence, Ala., has had all the recruiting he can take. With his senior season looming, Coman has decided when he is going to make a decision.

With several offers in hand, Coman has long claimed that Mississippi State is the team to beat for his commitment. And that lead has grown to the point that Coman is ready to shut things down.

"I have been thinking about committing next week," Coman said. "I know that Mississippi State is where I want to be. Beniquez (Brown) and I are both considering doing it next week. Even if he doesn't, I know I am going to. And once I make my decision, I am done. Nobody treats me like Mississippi State does. Like I said, I know that's where I want to be."

One of the main reasons Coman is ready to commit to MSU is his recruiting coach Geoff Collins. They have developed a special bond and Coman isn't shy about saying so.

"Coach Collins is just my best friend," Coman said. "He is really like a father figure to me. No matter what I want to talk about, he is there. He is a big part of my life now. He is always there for me. I know for a fact that MSU is the right place for me. I plan on being at every home game this year. I can't wait to get this decision behind me."

This Friday, Coman and his teammates will be taking on Vestavia Hills in a very big game for their program. Coman is ready to show the world that Florence has arrived and that they can compete with the big boys.

"I feel real good about it," Coman said. "We have been doing a lot of work to get ready for this game, as well as this whole season. I feel like we are going to come out with the 'W'. It's one of the biggest games that we have played and I think we have the team to be special this season."
