Cavazos knew it was time to commit after weekend trip to Starkville

Mike Leach-led programs typically will sign around five OL in each recruiting class.

On Tuesday night, offensive line coach Mason Miller and Leach landed their first of the 2021 class when Lake Cormorant's Gabe Cavazos made the decision to commit to the Bulldogs.

Cavazos chose the Bulldogs over offers from several other schools, including Memphis. Other Power Five schools were starting to sniff around Cavazos in recent weeks, but they will now have to turn their attention elsewhere.

Cavazos spent some time with BulldogBlitz to break down the decision to call Starkville home.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

"I had been thinking about it all last week," Cavazos said about the decision to commit to Mississippi State. "Yesterday morning, my offensive line coach and I had a nice little conversation about whether I should commit or wait. It was an exciting conversation, and this is an exciting moment."

"I got to see Starkville on Saturday. After that trip, I knew it was time for me to become (officially) a Bulldog. Being a football player, the stadium really stood out to me, but I also liked that it is not too far, but not too close from home. Everything isn't as spread out as I thought it was. My parents and I were just very happy to see it in person."

"I'm going to have to say that Memphis finished in second. I had really got to get close with them, but it is without a doubt going to mean something special to me to be able to stay in the state of Mississippi and play for my state."

"This is the end of my recruitment."
