Brown staying busy

Long Beach (Miss.) rising senior Richie Brown picked up a Mississippi State offer a few months ago and not long after his visit to the Bulldogs' junior day event. On Monday, the talented 6-foot-2 and 222-pound linebacker was back on MSU's campus to take in one of their summer camp sessions.

"It was pretty good," said Brown. "I had a lot of fun at camp and then we got to tour around the campus a little bit. I have already been offered so they weren't worried about me going through that much of camp and running the forty. They just wanted me to be around them and get a better view of the campus."

Brown added that he enjoying practicing under first-year MSU linebackers coach Geoff Collins as well.

"He is pretty fun to be around," said Brown of Collins. "He is a good coach and he is a funny guy, too, that makes you have fun in what you are doing."

But there was also a lot of hard work taking place on Monday, too, said Brown. Having visited MSU a couple of times now, Brown said he appreciated the work ethic he witnessed by the Bulldog coaching staff during his camp experience.

"What stuck out was the attitude the coaches have at Mississippi State," said Brown. "I like their tempo and they keep you running everywhere. They always have you doing stuff at camp to make sure you leave a better player. Their coaches are always friendly to me, too, and always greeting me and that makes me feel at home."

Before last weekend started, Brown owned offers from MSU, Kentucky, Stanford, Southern Miss and Memphis. However, Brown picked up another SEC offer before arriving at MSU on Monday due to his showing at an Ole Miss camp.

"It went pretty good, too," said Brown of Ole Miss camp. "We did a lot of testing and combine stuff, some 1-on-1 drills and some linebacker stuff. They finally offered me, too, while I was there. It was an offer I thought that would come earlier but I guess they were waiting for some reason. I was at their elite camp last year, too, and they noticed my stats got a lot better this time."

While his offers' list continues to change and increase, Brown is keeping the same mindset when it comes to naming a favorite or favorites in his recruitment.

"I am still neutral to everyone and the coaches told me not to rush and that I have plenty of time to decide," said Brown. "I would say State, Southern Miss, Stanford and Ole Miss are recruiting me the hardest. I will probably know or make my decision in December after my senior year is over with."
