State prevail over UAB in an grueling 19-7 win

STARKVILLE, Ms.- It took over three and a half hours, but Mississippi State defeated UAB in a midweek contest, 19-7.

As per usual, the Bulldogs went with a pitching staff by committee. Mikey Tepper kept the Blazers scoreless in his only inning. Kamren James scored Tanner Allen on an RBI double, followed up by a three-run shot by Logan Tanner.

In the 2nd, UAB scored a run on Chase Patrick with a bases-loaded walk. Cade Smith relieved him and gave up a 2-RBI single. The Bulldogs got those runs right back with a Rowdey Jordan sac fly, a Kamren James RBI groundout, and a Luke Hancock single. 7-3 State.

K.C. Hunt threw a scoreless 3rd, and Scotty Dubrule extended the MSU lead with a single. Cam Tullar retired the UAB side in order, Logan Tanner doubled to score Tanner Allen and then Josh Hatcher brought home Luke Hancock with a groundout.

Spencer Price gave up a 3-run home run in the 5th, but State put up a five-spot to make it a 15-6 game. Stone Simmons threw a 1-2-3 6th, and State didn’t get anything across. Preston Johnson gave up a sac fly, and State didn’t score.

Carlisle Koestler threw a scoreless inning, and MSU put up four runs in the 8th, including a two-run shot from Tanner Leggett. Eric Cerantola finished up the contest in the 9th by striking out the side.

Mississippi State improves to 28-8 on the year and will face Vanderbilt this weekend in Nashville.
