Mississippi State lands commitment from Guidry

Thompson Station (Tenn.) Independence safety Landon Guidry told BulldogBlitz.com on Monday that he committed to Mississippi State.

Guidry arrived in Starkville on Sunday night for a prospect camp on Monday.

"It was great working out with the coaches," Guidry said. "I really got a feel for how they run things. Coach Mo (Maurice Linguist) was great. I connected with him really well and coach Sirmon. Everything went really well."

The 6-foot, 176-pounder spent most of his time with Linguist, who will be his position coach at MSU, but Guidry also will be working with Terrell Buckley, another MSU secondaries coach.

"I talked to him a little bit," Guidry said of Buckley. "He was saying what he thinks of me in their defense. It went really well."

After Guidry's camp experience, he got to take a tour of Mississippi State.

"We went through all of the campus. I got to see everything," he said. "It was really clean. The football aspect was great too obviously."

And then came Guidry's decision to commit to the Bulldogs.

"The coaches really see me as an impact player," explained Guidry. "Coach Mo was telling me that he loved me ever since I came in for junior day in February. It was great getting to work with him. It was just a great day. I already felt like a part of the team honestly.

"I sat down with coach Sirmon with my family. We asked him a lot of questions, and he answered all of them. I felt really good about that. He answered every one of them with what I wanted to hear.

"Coach Mullen brought me in, and we talked with him. Then my family and I discussed it a little bit, and then I came back and told him that I wanted to commit."

Now that Guidry is committed, he's going to try to do recruiting of his own. He said that he will be trying to sway Ben Hutch to commit to the Bulldogs.

"I'm solid with Mississippi State," stated Guidry. "I'm done camping with other schools."

Guidry is listed as a cornerback on his Rivals.com profile, but he committed to MSU as a safety. He chose the Bulldogs over offers from Arkansas State, Cincinnati, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Southern Miss, Toledo, Vanderbilt, and Western Kentucky.
