Mississippi State got good news twice in less than 24 hours as it pertains to the 2015 football signing class. After four-star quarterback Chason Virgil decided to be a Bulldog on Thursday night, one of the top offensive lineman in the state of Mississippi, Tommy Champion, followed suit on Friday afternoon.

"I was thinking it over last night and talked to my family and I was ready to get it over with. Coach Knox came to see me at school and I told him I was ready to be a Bulldog," Champion said. "He told me he wanted me to tell coach Mullen so we called him up and he was pretty excited. He said that he was happy that I was the first big guy on board and was ready to get the ball rolling on the offensive linemen."
Champion had long been considered a Bulldog lean throughout last season and into the spring and many felt it was just a matter of when, not if, he decided to officially join the class.
"It's the only place I've really visited but it just feels like home," Champion said of MSU. "I'm just happy to finally be a Bulldog. My mom likes it there and they treat all of us like family."
"It feels great to get a chance to play for Mississippi," Champion said. "It feels like a dream come true playing for a team that I always loved and it's a place that I've always wanted to be at."
From the talented pipeline of Callaway in Jackson, Champion helped lead one of the top offenses in the state a year ago and was a part of quite possibly the state's best offensive line that included four-star Ole Miss signee Rod Taylor.
The talented blocker is quick on his feet to protect the quarterback but can also dig down and drive a defender into the secondary. He's got a great motor that makes him, quite possibly, the top tackle in the state for 2015.
"I'm just ready to get to work now," Champion said. "I know what coach Hevesy wants out of his offensive line and that's going to be hard work to accomplish. I just want to do everything I can to help the team and the offensive line."
Champion is the 13th member of the 2015 MSU signing class and the ninth of the state of Mississippi. He's the first offensive linemen on the board for MSU in a much-needed blocking class.
