Rewriting the Mississippi State women's golf record books earned sophomore standout Ally McDonald a spot on the All-SEC First Team, as announced by the league office Monday.

She becomes the first Lady Bulldog to appear on the All-SEC First Team since Amandine Vincent's First Team selection in 1995.

"I'm honored to be able to represent Mississippi State on this level," McDonald said. "I have to first thank God for the ability he has blessed me with. With out Him, I wouldn't be able to accomplish any of this. I also have to thank my teammates and coaches for always pushing me and challenging me to do better. This just shows the progress we have made here at MSU."

McDonald claimed her first-career win to conclude the fall slate as she fired a 2-under-par 214 in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. She would later break the school's lowest tournament score record with a 6-under-par 210 in the M&F Bank Rebel Intercollegiate. McDonald also has the third-lowest round (68) and second-lowest 36-hole score (139) in MSU history.

The Fulton native shattered the school's scoring average record (72.70) by 1.50 strokes. Other single-season records she holds include rounds in the 60's (6), par or better rounds (15) and birdies (85).

McDonald was selected to the All-SEC Freshman Team a year ago and has been heralded by the conference twice this year with Player of the Week honors.

"Ally is the true essence of what a Bulldog is," third-year MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "She represents this university with class and dignity and I could not be happier for her. She is our flagship for what we are doing with golf here at Mississippi State. Ally is the best player to come through this program and she is only a sophomore."

Alabama's Mic Potter was named SEC Coach of the Year, while the Tide's Stephanie Meadow earned Golfer of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year laurels. Emma Talley, also of Alabama, was named Freshman of the Year.

Individual awards are voted on the coaches, while the teams are determined by adjusted scoring averages.

The Mississippi State women's golf team travels to the NCAA Central Regional beginning Thursday, April 9, at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course in Norman, Okla. It is the program's first postseason appearance since the 2006 NCAA East Regional.
