Thursdays Game One Postponed as Weather Threatens

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Despite getting off to a fast start Thursday night, the Mississippi State baseball team could not beat the rain.

With a 4-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning, the Southeastern Conference series opener between Mississippi State and Texas A&M was suspended by heavy rains at Dudy Noble Field. The teams will complete this contest at 5 p.m. Friday. Game two of the series will begin at 6:30 p.m.

In the opening inning, the Bulldogs plated three runs. Seth Heck started the half inning with a single, while Alex Detz followed with a walk. Brett Pirtle advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt. Gavin Collins continued his recent tear with a two-run single to left center. The Bulldogs plate the final run of that at-bat with a wild pitch.

The lead grew to 4-0 on a Seth Heck RBI-double in the second inning.

Texas A&M broke up the shutout by scoring on a wild pitch in the fourth inning.

For MSU, starting pitcher Trevor Fitts was still in the game. Fiits had allowed five hits and one run (unearned) through six innings of work, with six strikeouts.
