Texas QB Daniel Greek commits to Mississippi State
THE SITUATION
Liberty Christian has been one of the busiest schools in Texas in the month of January as crowds of college football coaches flooded the hallways to get a closer look at the talent. Among those included is 2021 quarterback Daniel Greek.
On Sunday, the three-star quarterback committed to Mississippi State over the likes of Utah, Purdue, Washington State, Duke and Stanford, among others.
Greek has had a longstanding relationship with first-year Bulldogs head coach Mike Leach dating back to his time at Washington State and before that, Texas Tech. Leach prioritized Greek while at Wazzu and quickly offered the 2021 quarterback when he touched down in Starkville. Greek and his family made a trip out to campus this past weekend and gave a commitment before returning home to Dallas.

"They offered me at Washington State and Coach (Dave) Emerick really invested me and recruited me hard. I had a relationship with them for some time and I'm very appreciative of Coach Leach in seeing what I can do, in believing in me and I'm very appreciative for those opportunities. I made my decision because I love this school, I love the people here and the coaching staff. The SEC is the biggest stage in college football and the Air Raid, I've been running since I was very young. This is a surreal moment."
"This is one of the staffs I've been close with the entire recruiting process, which made me feel very welcome. As soon as I got on campus I loved it. The people there were amazing. There was Southern hospitality and it's closer to family than some of the other schools. On top of that, knowing that I can come in and know the offense because I've been running it and Coach Leach is a legend, so it's an honor to play and learn for him."
"I have a very high opinion of the staff and of Coach Leach. There was no pressure. They told me they'd take my commitment whenever I was ready and I just felt like I needed to make this decision, so I took a step out in faith. I love the area, I love the staff and I love this school, so I decided to commit and play with confidence this season and get that weight off my shoulders."
RIVALS REACTION
Injury hampered Greek's production during his junior campaign at Liberty Christian. Still, the Mke Leach connection won out and Greek will slide right into the new-look Mississippi State Air Raid offense.
Greek has a big arm and operates as a field general in an offense with wrinkles of the Air Raid principles and is founded on receivers in 1-on-1 matchups and creating mismatches Greek thrives in such a system with his ability to make accurate throws downfield and consistently hit wide-open receivers. He also has the arm power and accuracy to thread the needle at time and make smart throws based on open receivers across the formation.
Greek has a quick delivery and willing to take underneath routes to move the sticks. While he is listed as pro-style prospect, the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder also has the ability to extend plays in the pocket and keep plays alive.
It's also worth pointing out that Greek throws with good anticipation and is a bit improvisational under center. He has a strong enough arm to throw off off-balanced or on the move and still make plays. He takes what the defense gives him, but also has a unique ability to create plays with his athleticism.
