McCorvey looks ahead

Earlier this year, Vancleave (Miss.) junior Jerry McCorvey took in an unofficial visit to Mississippi State when he attended one of the Bulldogs' junior days. This past weekend, the 6-foot-3 and 220-pound defensive end/linebacker made the trip to Ole Miss and checked out the Rebels' spring game.
"It was a good visit and I enjoyed their spring game," said McCorvey. "I got to talk with their coaches more and that was a good thing. I liked seeing how their coaches relate to their players and how good their communication was with them. It was pretty good to see that."

McCorvey added he had original plans to attend the Bulldogs' spring game but instead had prom duties at his high school.
And Ole Miss and MSU are among the schools showing McCorvey interest on the recruiting scene.
"I have an offer from South Alabama," said McCorvey. "Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Southern Miss are all showing pretty good interest, too. Things are going good with Mississippi State, too. I think their coaches really like me. They want me to come to their camp and we will just see how it goes from there. I am also going to make it back up to Ole Miss and go to their summer camp."
Despite playing middle linebacker the past two years, McCorvey noted that colleges are projecting him at another defensive position.
"Colleges are recruiting me mostly as a defensive end," said McCorvey. "And that's fine with me. I am willing to learn a new position and do what it takes to play that spot in college."
Last fall McCorvey collected an impressive 143 tackles with 10 tackles for loss and two sacks. With spring practice opening up this week at Vancleave High School, McCorvey has his sights set on bigger things in 2011.
"We start spring ball this week," said McCorvey. "I look forward to being twice as good as last year. I think we are playing St. Martin and West Harrison in our spring games and we want to win both of them.
"I just want to be a good leader and improve my speed and strength."
