Back in early spring, Carrollton (Ga.) cornerback Jonathan Jones took an unofficial visit to Mississippi State to check out one of the Bulldogs' spring practices. On Thursday, the 5-foot-10 and 170-pound rising senior was back on campus for another glimpse of the MSU program.
"It went very good and it was good to be around their coaches again," said Jones. "I saw a lot of the campus last time and this time it was great to just hang out with the coaches and I got to know them a little better today.
"They are definitely one of my top schools. I can't put a number on them but they are a high priority on my list."
Jones added that his visit helped to continue his relationship-building process with the MSU coaching staff.
"The coaches told me pretty much the same thing they've been saying," said Jones. "They said they were glad I came back to see them and that they want me in the program. Nothing has changed with them and I feel real comfortable with their coaches. I know coach Angelo Mirando and coach Melvin Smith pretty well and we are building good relationships."
Jones currently holds offers Mississippi State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Texas Tech, Wake Forest and Boston College. And next week, he said his summer travels will continue.
"I am going to Auburn next Tuesday for a visit," said Jones. "Then I might be going to Tennessee, Kentucky and maybe Florida State and Georgia Tech again."
And these visits, said Jones, will help paint a clearer picture with his eventual collegiate decision.
"They will help a lot," said Jones. "I get a chance to see these schools again and a chance to be around the coaches more. Depending on how these visits go, I may still take a couple of official visits and still take some more time. I may narrow it down to two or three official visits and just go from there. The main thing is finding that right vibe from the coaches and a school and finding out where I want to be for the next four or five years."
