Herring makes noise at Clash

The second installment of the Bolivar Commercial Prep Clash features standout linebacker Chris Herring from South Panola. Chris is one of the best athletes in the state, regardless of position, and has been hearing from schools everywhere.

“I heard from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Auburn, Tennessee, and that’s about it,” he said regarding phone calls. He has received hundreds of letters and the phone calls should continue to come in.
Herring has heard from a lot of coaches during the early contact period and a couple have stood out to him. “Coach Cutcliffe and Coach Smith from Mississippi State have stood out,” he said. He has heard from others but states, “I don’t remember the other guys.”
The Rebels are the early leader for Herring’s services, but he says nothing is set in stone. “Ole Miss stands out but I haven’t really decided on making a choice yet. I am going to put up with that next year. Just Ole Miss stands out, now.”
Herring was one of the top players during the Clash and made an impression on the opposing teams. “I thought I had 25 or 30 tackles, but my teammates said I had more than that,” he said.
“it was fun. we just ran out of wrinkles in the offense and defense. that is where our weak points are at. when we get everybody healthy, we got the starting 2 defensive tackles out and both of them are dealing with surgery, we will definitely be back.
Herring says that he may end up playing on both sides of the ball this year. “He (head Coach Ed Stanley) thinks we got enough talent this year where nobody has to go both ways, but my teammates are saying that on down the line he is going to put me on offense.” Chris is being recruited as a linebacker, but is also being recruited by some schools both ways as a fullback and tight end.
Chris is anticipating attending some summer camps, but is not sure of his exact destinations. “The coaches are wanting to take me to Ole Miss, Mississippi State and LSU and I might go to a Florida camp,” he said. “I am probably going to sit down with all of my senior classmates and discuss with them and see which ones they want to go to.”
