Bulldogs add receiver to the commit list

Wide receiver was a big need last year, and while State filled that need to a certain extent, you can never have too many playmakers at that slot. With that in mind, State reached out and grabbed long-time Bulldog fan Alex Carpenter over the weekend, after having a stellar showing at their camp. What does Carpenter bring to the table?
"I committed to State," commented the Biggersville athlete and star. "I got my offer today. Coach [Reed] Stringer, he and coach Croom both liked me. I had wanted to go there since I was little and they gave an offer so I said I was going to take it."

Carpenter measured in at 5-11 ½, and 167 pounds at the camp. He ran 4.67 at the NIKE Camp in Oxford, and complete results from that camp, along with photos will be released later this week. He has a bench max of 255 pounds and recorded an amazing 37 ½-inch vertical leap at the MSU camp. As a junior he was utilized all over the field and had 118 carries for 1016 yards and 11 touchdowns, while throwing 132 passes for 799 yards and eight scores.
"They said they don't know where they are recruiting me right now," Carpenter commented on his position at the next level. "They said I would probably be a receiver, but they don't know right now."
Biggersville head coach Ronnie Lawson said Carpenter will be a receiver at the next level, but doesn't feel there is a position he can't play.
"They (The MSU coaching staff) just liked his size and speed and explosiveness," he commented. "He is a great athlete. He is just an all-around great athlete. He played quarterback, running back, receiver, defensive back.
"They were always pretty interested in him, because of his highlight tapes and talking to him, but they just wanted to see him against some of the other top players. I guess they just liked what they saw today. Coach Stringer, the one recruiting this area, he told me that out of the about 40 tapes he had seen this year that was the best one."
Rumors have been running rampant about Carpenter's academic status, but it looks like things are falling into place for the talented Biggersville star.
"They (his academic counselors) said if I don't make lower than a C next year all I have to get is a 16 on the ACT next year," he explained. "I am not bad off, but I have to do a little work." He took the ACT Saturday, so should know where he stands soon.
