STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State's Corey Broomfield was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Broomfield, a redshirt freshman from Palm Bay, Fla., earned his first career start in last weekend's victory over Middle Tennessee State.
In the win, Broomfield intercepted a pair of fourth-quarter passes and recorded five tackles (all solo). He was also credited with a pass breakup and a tackle for loss.
The Bayside High graduate is now tied for the SEC lead with three interceptions on the season.
