Big Texas Lineman has Mississippi Roots

They say everything is bigger in Texas and Denison High lineman Brandon Fulton surely fits the bill. One thing differentiates him from other Texans, however, and that is his ties to the Magnolia State.

At 6-4, 310 pounds, with a 5.5 forty time Brandon played noseguard last season in his first year of organized football. His coaches have decided to move him to right tackle this season, to take advantage of his size and strength. He squats 456 pounds and bench presses 240 pounds.
Even though he has only played football for one season, Brandon has picked out a couple of NFL stars to pattern his style of play after. “On defense I try to play like Warren Sapp,” he said. “On offense I try to play like Orlando Pace.”
”I try to be intense,” Fulton commented on his attitude on the field. “I try to do my best at whatever I have to do.”
Although he didn’t step onto the gridiron until last season, Fulton has always been involved in athletics. “I was always baseball player,” he said. “I started when I was 8 years old.
”My dad wanted me to try it (football), so I just went ahead and tried it.” He still plays baseball as a first baseman and a pitcher.
”I am looking at Mississippi State, maybe TCU, I would say,” Brandon commented. He has received letters from Sam Houston, Texas A&M Commerce, TCU, Arkansas Tech, and Stephen F. Austin, but many coaches are waiting to see how he performs on the offensive line this season. He camped at MSU and TCU this summer.
”When I was growing up, college wise, Mississippi State is the team my family liked, and I sort of grew up on,” Brandon remarked. He also had a brother in law that graduated from Mississippi State.
The Fultons lived in Columbus, Mississippi, until Brandon was 6 or 7, then moved to Denison when his father was transferred. The majority of his family still lives in the Columbus area, and he would like to return home to be close to them.
”I would like to be around more of my family. All of my family lives in Columbus and Mississippi State is just 25 minutes from where they live. I just have my sister in Fort Worth and my mom and dad here. Everybody else is in down in Columbus.”
Brandon is an excellent student and should have no problems qualifying academically. He maintains a 3.0 GPA and took the ACT for the first time last Saturday. He is currently ranked 105 in a class of 290 students.
