Cornerback Reggie Wilkerson has decided to transfer after he graduates in May, the senior told UGASports.com on Wednesday, March 8.

"I'm in a good place," Wilkerson said. "I've been talking with the people upstairs (at Butts-Mehre) and they were trying to get me to stay. I have to do what's best for my family. This has been the best four years of my life. I love Georgia. There are no hard feelings."

Wilkerson joked that he was the "last one standing" of the nine defensive backs Georgia signed in 2013. He is only the second one of that group to graduate as all the others besides Quincy Mauger either transferred or were dismissed.

With one year of eligibility left and a degree in hand, Wilkerson could wind up in the SEC depending on his release from Georgia. So far it appears that Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Iowa State or FAU might be his next stop. Interestingly enough, Todd Grantham is now the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State, and he actually recruited Wilkerson to Georgia. It seems unlikely that Kirby Smart would block Wilkerson from attending an SEC school after the uproar that occurred when Alabama initially blocked graduate transfer Maurice Smith from heading to Georgia.

A native of Citra, Florida, Wilkerson has played sparingly with the Bulldogs over the years, appearing in just 19 games.

His most action came in 2015 when Wilkerson played in 13 contests, making 11 tackles, including two for losses of 12 yards. He also broke up one pass and intercepted one in a game against Vanderbilt.

Injuries didn’t help his cause over the course of his career.

Back in summer of 2013, Wilkerson underwent a pair of two surgeries to repair a torn ACL.

He missed the entire 2013 season before finally seeing action in 2014, playing in one game.

As an early enrollee, Wilkerson was listed on the first team at cornerback following the 2013 G-Day game prior to the injury taking place.

Wilkerson was a former four-star performer at North Marion High in Citra. He characterized the transfer as a "business decision."

He becomes the seventh player to transfer who played for the Bulldogs last year, joining cornerback Juwan Briscoe, safety Kirby Choates, safety Rico McGraw, linebacker Shaun McGee, quarterback Brice Ramsey and wide receiver Shaquery Wilson.
