Former Tech players getting attention from the NFL

Louisiana Tech had a ton of veteran leadership on its 2012 9-3 team. Which leaves little doubt why the National Football League (NFL) has interest in several of the key contributors from that team.

Quinton Patton

Quinton Patton headlines the group. Patton amassed 2,594 yards receiving in his career with 24 touchdowns. Patton transferred from Coffeyville Community College in 2011.

At the NFL Combine, Patton ran a 4.53 second 40-yard dash and improved that time to a 4.47 at Tech's Pro Day in March. Another measurable he was able to improve on was his vertical. While at the Combine he had a 33-inch vertical jump and at the Pro Day a 37-inch vertical jump.

Patton received a ton of attention for his performance at the Senior Bowl as he impressed scouts with his abilities as a receiver. Many project Patton to be an early round draft pick in the NFL draft being drafted anywhere from the first to the third round.

Patton has had several workouts with the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers already and visited with the Tennessee Titans, St. Louis Rams, Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers. He will travel soon to meet with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots.

Myles White

Receiver Myles White had 1,132 yards and 9 touchdowns in two seasons as a Bulldog. White had a good day at Tech's Pro Day in March with a 37.5-inch vertical, 10-foot-1 broad jump, and 4.41-second 40-yard dash.

White has workouts with the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions coming up and has talked to a total of 24 teams throughout the process.

Ray Holley

Running back Ray Holley spent three years as a Bulldog after receiving a medical hardship waiver from a back injury he sustained in a game against Mississippi State in 2011. Holley racked up 1,090 yards rushing and 451 yard receiving at Tech.

Holley really impressed scouts at Tech's Pro Day as the 5-foot-8 194-pound back had a 37.5-inch vertical, 4.55-second 40-yard dash, 9-foot-11 broad jump, 6.84-second three-cone, and put up 27 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Today, Holley has a workout with the New England Patriots at his Junior College, Orange Coast Community College. He has also spoken with the Baltimore Ravens on the phone. Holley hopes to hear from the San Fransisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints before it is all over as well. The Seattle Seahawks are high on him as well.

Colby Cameron

Quarterback Colby Cameron set an NCAA record for most completions without an interception this season with 358.

At the NFL Combine, Cameron recorded some of the best measurements among quarterbacks with his 4.78-second 40-yard dash, 6.98-second three-cone and 4.28-second 20-yard dash.

While at the Combine, Cameron says he talked to almost every team.

Matt Nelson

Matt Nelson started at kicker for the Bulldogs for four years. While at Tech, Nelson handled the kickoff and placekicking duties and was 53 for 73 on his career on field goals and 201 for 211 on extra points.

Recently, Nelson participated in a workout put on by National Camp Series in Boca Raton, Fla. During that 3-day event, Nelson was 36 for 40 on field goals and had an average of 3.94 seconds of hang time on his kickoffs and averaged kicking off 6.4 yards deep in the end zone.

Nelson is waiting to see if he is invited to training camp in the NFL and has had contact with the NY Jets, Cleveland Browns and St. Louis Rams.

Jordan Mills

Offensive tackle, Jordan Mills also started four years for the Bulldogs. Mills measured in at 6-foot-5 316 pounds at the NFL combine. Mills, like Patton, impressed scouts at the Senior Bowl.

NY Jets offensive line coach Mike Devlin was in Ruston for Tech's Pro Day and is high on Mills. In addition to the Jets, Mills has a workout with the New Orleans Saints coming soon.
