Frazer to miss two weeks with knee injury

UConn quarterback Zach Frazer will miss at least the Huskies' next two games, and possibly longer, with a right knee injury suffered Saturday in a 12-10 loss to North Carolina.

Frazer, who had completed 11 of 19 passes for 94 yards and an interception, was injured with 9:21 remaining in the third quarter when he scrambled to his left for five yards before North Carolina defensive tackle Marvin Austin tackled him as he slid.

"These injuries don't appear that they're going to be season-ending injuries," head coach Randy Edsall said, also referring to a back injury suffered by tight end Ryan Griffin in the second quarter. "If they were, I'd tell you. Time frame, I can't tell you. I wish I could tell you, but my trainers are telling me that a lot depends on how they heal and how they feel, so they're out this week and I don't think it looks good for the following week."

Cody Endres entered in place of Frazer in the third quarter and led UConn to a touchdown - a four-yard run by Jordan Todman - on his second drive. He'll take over as the starter while true freshman Michael Box assumes a back-up role.

Endres started two games last season, also in place of Frazer, and led the Huskies to a win against Cincinnati and a loss against West Virginia. Saturday's start at Baylor will be his first career road appearance.

Edsall said Frazer and Griffin will each be re-evaluated heading into the team's bye week after playing Rhode Island on Sept. 26 and may play in UConn's Big East opener at Pittsburgh on Oct. 10.

Endres finished 3-for-9 for 30 yards for UConn and was sacked twice by Quinton Coples, including on the final play of the game.
