Ole Miss offers Miami wide receiver

Ole Miss signed 10 prospects that were originally from Florida last February and Ole Miss coaches are again all over the Sunshine state either offering or evaluating prospects.

One name that recently has been added to Ole Miss' watch list for next February is Miami (Carol City HS) wide receiver Allen Hurns.

"Ole Miss offered recently and I expect that the written offer is coming this week," Hurns said on Wednesday. "They looked at my film from the spring and my highlight DVD and I got the offer."

Hurns, a 6-foot-2, 175 pound wide receiver who was timed at one camp with 4.44 speed, also has been in touch with Rebel recruiting coordinator Chris Vaughn, a Tallahassee native who recruits portion of Florida for Ole Miss.

"Coach Vaughn told me he likes all that I do," Hurns said. "I saw him in the spring and he's telling me to just keep working hard."

While Hurns recently declared UCF his leader, he says he is "pretty open" and likely will not make a verbal pledge until he can take some official visits this fall.

He already has offers from UCF, Miami, Pittsburgh, and Florida International and is hearing from West Virginia, Florida and Florida State.

Hurns said he would like to attend Ole Miss' camp on July 25, but likely will opt instead to attend Florida's camp on July 24.

One thing that is attracting Hurns' attention is the talent at quarterback at Ole Miss and well as the way the depth chart looks at wide receiver

"I like their quarterback," he said. "He's really a good one. And, I talked to coach Vaughn and they're losing some wide receivers."

Jevan Snead, the Rebels' junior quarterback, is already projected as a first round draft choice in next spring's NFL draft should he elect to forego his senior season.

Hurns describes himself as a very competitive player who is versatile at wide receiver.

"I can run all kind of routes, but I love to stretch the field," he said. "My favorite, though, is the big time play."

Hurns had 23 receptions for 450 yards last year as a junior with seven touchdowns and was his team's kick and punt returner.

Hurns said he is doing great in the classroom and projects as a December graduate, which would allow him to enroll in school in January and go through spring practice with the college that he selects.
