Tulsa adds more local stars
Deonte Morris and Thomas Roberson and Bixby athlete DeWitt Jennings all gave their commitments to Tulsa assistant coach Bill Blankenship. Morris, a 6-foot-4 and 230-pound tight end, has been sold on TU for quite some time. The University of Tulsa added three more local players to their 2010 commitment list today, as Tulsa (OK) Union players
"Yes sir, I committed to Tulsa today," said Morris. "I knew I was going to Tulsa for some time, but Thomas called me today and said he had committed to Coach Blankenship, so then I called and told him I had a surprise and was committing too. He was really fired up."
Morris indicated that his relationship with Coach Blankenship and the Tulsa coaches, the proximity of the Tulsa campus, and the Tulsa offense, were all major factors in his decision.
"I was too young to play for Coach Blankenship when he was at Union, but I've known him for a long time," he explained. "He coached my cousin, Tony Moore, who played running back for us. I also like the fact that the campus is close to home.
"He told me they (Tulsa) will use me just like they do Charles Clay. Last year, I played mostly tight end, but would flex out some and also line up as a wide receiver.
"I feel my strengths, besides my size, are my hands and my blocking. I have good hands and am a pretty good blocker, as well. Right now, I prefer run-blocking, but I'm going to continue working on both aspects.
"I also like Tulsa's facilities and am really familiar with the school and coaches. I've gone to team camp there the last couple of years."
Although Morris had the lone offer from Tulsa prior to his commitment, he was receiving interest from a number of top programs.
"I have just the offer from Tulsa, but I've been talking on the phone to Tennessee, Kansas State, Colorado and Houston," he explained. "But I'm solid with Tulsa. That's where I'm going."
