Marve still considering transfer options

Nothing much has changed on the Robert Marve watch as the former Miami (Fla.) quarterback continues to mull over his transfer options trying to decide which school is best for him.

Purdue, considered the leader in the sweepstakes for Marve according to some reports, along with Arizona State, USF and Nebraska are all vying for Marve's services.

After visiting all the aforementioned schools, Marve still hasn't come to a decision according to his father, Eugene.

"I still think he's in that decision-orbiting mode," his father said Wednesday night.

His father, who was a linebacker for 12 years with the Buffalo Bills, San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, declined to comment on who may be the favorite for landing his son. But he did commend Purdue with how it has recruited the former Tampa Plant High School standout.

"I don't think Purdue could've recruited him any better than they did," he said. "They've developed a special relationship (with him), but he's still in that decision mode."

His father chose his words carefully during the interview.

"It's his deal, you know. Sometimes it's best for me not to say too much and try to refer everything back to him because it is his decision," Eugene said. "Trust me, he's still warring over this thing inside himself and wants to get it right.

"As a family, we're very honored that Purdue is considering him and asking him to join their football family."

So what are Purdue's chances?

"I wouldn't want to mess with that," he said. "I could be in trouble if I say either/or. I've got to be very sensitive to this, especially for Robert's sake. I know this is big business and serious so I have to watch what I say about that stuff."

When Marve's mind is made up, he likely won't have a press conference.

Some thought he would announce his decision this week, which of course is still possible.

"I was thinking sometime this week or last week, but it looks like we're pressing into this week pretty good and I don't think there's going to be any resolution this week," his father said.

His father does believe there will be a resolution in the next week to 10 days.

Marve still has one more official visit he could take, but nothing is planned.

"It's a tough decision," his father admitted.

"There are a lot of great things about Purdue University. (Offensive coordinator) Gary Nord and Danny Hope have laid such a great foundation, a relationship. It's a great opportunity, but he's still struggling with it."

Marve will have to sit out the 2009 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

As a sophomore for the Hurricanes, Marve, a former Florida Mr. Football, threw for 1,293 yards with nine touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 2008.

He was rated the nation's No. 8 quarterback and No. 20 on the Florida Top 100 by Rivals.com as a senior in high school. Marve completed 66.5 percent of his passes setting a Florida state single-season records in 2006, breaking Tim Tebow's marks for passing yards (4,380) and touchdowns (48).
