Bortles makes a stop at UCF

Oviedo (Fla.) quarterback Blake Bortles attended several UCF home games last season and the 6-foot-4 signal caller returned to campus this past weekend for another visit. He received his first offer from the Knights in January.

Bortles was late for the main Junior Day event because of a scheduling conflict.

"I went to a combine and it gone done late so by the time I headed over there it was just Coach (Geoff) Collins still there," Bortles said. "He showed me around the locker room and weight room real quick. I talked to him for a little bit and then I left.

"I wasn't able to meet Coach (George) O'Leary that day, but (Collins) wants me and my parents to do that. I think he said April 4 would be the day to go over there, watch a practice, meet with all the coaches and then Coach O'Leary will have a sit-down with me and my parents."

He hopes to see another school during spring practice too.

"I'm getting invitations to spring practices and I think I'm going up to Tennessee to watch a practice and talk to their coaches," Bortles said.

Bortles is currently busy with baseball season. He plays right field for the Lions.

"It's going good," he said. "We played West Orange the other night. We were 17th in the nation and they were 20th in the nation. They beat us, but we're pretty decent. We should be all right."

He's also given some thought to trying to play baseball at the next level.

"I've always just said I'll go with whichever one I have the best future in," Bortles said. "Towards the end of my high school I'll sit down with my parents and decide."
