Goro named PARADE All-American

Postseason honors continue to pour in for Vanderbilt quarterback commitment Charlie Goro. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior out of Maine South High in Park Ridge (Ill.) has earned consensus all-state recognition as well as multiple player of the year honors including the Rivals.com/EdgyTim.com Illinois Offensive Player of the Year.

This week however, Goro earned his biggest honor when he was named to the 46th annual PARADE All-American team. Goro was one of seven quarterbacks to be named to the 58 man team consisting of standouts from 25 states. The team was selected by coaches, journalists, scouts, and recruiters.

As a senior, the Rivals.com three-star rated prospect completed 227-of-321 pass attempts for 3,210 yards and 38 touchdowns. Goro also gained 665 yards and scored 12 touchdowns on 137 carries as he led the Hawks to a 14-0 season and the Class 8A state championship.

A two-year starter for Maine South, his career 74.8 completion percentage is believed to be one of the best in recent history in the state of Illinois and his 575 pass attempts with only eight interceptions is also believed to be one of the best attempt-to-interception ratios in Illinois high school football.

Overall, Goro passed for nearly 6,000 yards and 64 touchdowns while also gaining over 1,100 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground during his two years as Maine South's quarterback. A true athlete, Goro started at receiver for the Hawks as a sophomore and caught 24 passes for 580 yards and 10 scores.

He also played basketball and participated in track at Maine South. As a junior, he was a member of the Hawks 800-meter state championship relay team.

When Goro signs with Vanderbilt on February 4th, he is believed to be the first PARADE All-American to sign with Vanderbilt's football program since 1985 when Birmingham (Ala.) kicking specialist Johnny Clark signed out of Homewood High.

Goro committed to Vanderbilt over offers from Illinois, Central Michigan, Ohio and others on August 12th.

He is one of three prospects from the state of Illinois to be named to the All-American team. East St.Louis receiver Terry Hawthorne and Glenbard West offensive lineman Chris Watt were also selected from the Land of Lincoln.
