Wingo names a top five

SAN ANTONIO - During most recruiting processes, prospects are only able to visit their prospective colleges once before making their final decision. In some cases, recruits will pull the trigger before even taking any trip at all. When it comes to Ronnie Wingo Jr.'s method, the nation's No.3-ranked athlete wants to make sure that he's fully evaluated every option.

The St. Louis, Missouri star announced on Sunday afternoon in San Antonio that he officially has a list of favorites.

"I'm still open right now but I've narrowed it down to five schools," said Wingo during his check-in at the U.S. Army All-American game. "It's between Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kansas and Alabama."

The 6-foot-3, 212-pounder had already visited the five programs during the summer. Over the last month and during the next 30 days, Wingo is looking to take a second look at all of them.

"I went to Missouri and Kansas in December. I'm going to Arkansas on January 9th, Illinois on the 23rd and then either Alabama or Minnesota on the 15th or 16th."

Though Wingo thoroughly enjoyed himself on both of his first two visits, he wasn't ready to name a leader at this point.

"I don't want to say that because I still have three more visits to go on. I don't want to put the wrong idea out there."

Checking out each college twice reflects Wingo's thoughts on how big he feels this decision is.

"It's going to basically be your family for the next four years. They're going to develop you into a man. You have to make sure you're going to make the right choice."

While several U.S. Army All-American players will be making their verbal declaration on national television this Saturday, Wingo says that he will not be one of them.

"I'm just going on all my visits and the week before signing day is my last visit. That's when I will make my decision."
