SAN ANTONIO - From recruit to recruiter.

Since committing to LSU on July 28th, Chris Davenport has tried his best to convince fellow blue-chip prospects from the Class of 2009 that they should play their college football in Baton Rouge.

"I am trying to help us get the best recruiting class possible," said the five-star defensive tackle from Mansfield, La.. "Right now, we have the No. 1 ranked class in the country.

"Hopefully we'll get a few more five-stars and a few more four-star players (to commit) and that will seal the deal. It would be great if we can seal the deal by getting Rueben Randle, Barkevious Mingo and William Campbell. I talk to Rueben at least three times a week, and I talked to William Campbell the other night. I am trying to tell them all the good things about LSU."

Davenport has an opportunity to do some heavy recruiting for the Tigers this week in San Antonio. He is in the Alamo City getting ready to play for the West squad in the US Army All-American Bowl.

"My roommate here is Chris Faulk," Davenport said. "He is also committed to LSU, so he can help me recruit."

While Davenport came into the recruiting process with high interest in LSU, he also gave strong consideration to Florida State, Alabama and Ole Miss.

"LSU is close to home so my parents will be able to come see me play every week," Davenport said when asked what sold him on the Tigers. "And I'll get a good education. Who knows, if football doesn't work out for me after college, and I decide to stay in Louisiana, I will always have a job somewhere in the state."

Davenport plans to take his official visit to LSU the weekend of Jan. 19.

Davenport, the second-ranked prospect from the Bayou State this cycle, missed the first six games of his senior season after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on August 5th.

"In the last four games I came back and had 45 tackles and nine sacks," he added.
