Key stats: Clark engineered an attack that paced the conference in scoring (40.2 ppg). He ranked second in the Big Ten in passing efficiency with 17 TD tosses and just four picks.

Key stats: The Big Ten's top rusher set a school single-season record with 1,729 yards rushing, and was the only Football Bowl Subdivision (i.e., Division I-A) running back to run for more than 100 yards in each game. The last Big Ten back to run for more than 100 yards in each league game was Curtis Enis in 1997.

High schools: Ellicott City (Md.) Mount Hebron
Key stats: Maybin ranked third in the league in tackles for loss with 1.6 per game and led the conference with 12 sacks, helping the Nittany Lions tie for second in the Big Ten (32 sacks) in that category.

Key stats: A terror off the edge, Wootton had nine sacks and 15 tackles for loss. The Wildcats led the Big Ten in sacks with 2.75 per game and finished second in tackles for loss with 6.8 per game.

High schools: Burlington (Iowa) High
Key stats: His 55 career tackles for loss rank second among FBS players. King helped the Hawkeyes hold Michigan State's Javon Ringer, Pitt's LeSean McCoy and Penn State's Evan Royster to less than 100 yards rushing.

Key stats: Odrick was the anchor of a defense that allowed foes to convert just 30.8 percent on third down, which was the best in the league. Penn State also led the league in rushing defense (95.9 ypg).

Key stats: The Big Ten's top tackler in league play, Jones averaged 11.1 stops per game and closed the season with double-digit tackles in his final six contests.
LB James Laurinaitis, Ohio State

Key stats: The No. 2 tackler in the Big Ten (10.1 per game), Laurinaitis was the spiritual leader of the Big Ten's No. 2 total defense (279.3 ypg) and No. 2 scoring defense (13.1 ppg).

Key stats: Miller was the Big Ten's top tackler, collecting 72 solo stops and 60 assists to average 11 per game. That average ranked third in the nation.

Key stats: Davis, one of the most physically gifted defensive backs in the nation, had two picks, eight pass breakups, three forced fumbles and 78 tackles for the Illini.

Key stats: Jenkins had three picks and nine pass breakups, and was the best player in a secondary that helped the Buckeyes finish third in the Big Ten in pass defense (101.2 rating).

High schools: West Deptford (N.J.) High
Key stats: Scirrotto was part of a secondary that led the league in pass-efficiency defense (97.3) and scoring defense (12.4 ppg). He was fourth on the team with 57 tackles and had two interceptions.

High schools: Flint (Mich.) Carman-Ainsworth
Key stats: Wiley was second in the Big Ten in interceptions (four) and eighth in pass breakups (11). He also doubled as a standout punt returner.
