Area Roundup: Texoma


4A -DII Denison 42, Dallas Lincoln 13

Jordan Taylor had a hand in all six Denison touchdowns as the Yellow Jackets (12-0) defeated Dallas Lincoln (6-5) to the region semifinals against Sulphur Springs.

Taylor ran for three touchdowns and had three touchdown passes two to Cody Reeves as part of a school-record 257 passing yards. The Yellow Jackets finished with 430 yards against a Lincoln defense that had allowed just two touchdowns all season. Denison scored three times in a five-minute span during the second quarter.

Lincoln took a 13-0 lead with a pair of short touchdown runs by Mason Hayes but on the final 10 possessions had six turnovers and never really threatened to score in the second half.

3A- DII Celina 54, Kennedale 21

Celina (9-3) scored often and early in a victory over Kennedale (9-3) that propelled the defending state champions into the region semifinals against Texarkana Pleasant Grove.

The Bobcats had a 28-0 lead after the first quarter and were up 48-0 at half-time. Troy McCartney finished with 178 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries all in the first half while Cody Worrell was a perfect 10-of-10 passing for 172 yards and three touchdown passes two to Andy James plus 83 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, all in the first half.

Kennedale had 261 yards on 40 carries and did not complete a pass in fact two of its three passes were intercepted. Kennedale finally got on the board midway through the third quarter.

2A- DI Pilot Point 15, Gunter 13

Austin Balderas forced a fumble and recovered it in the closing minutes to preserve Pilot Point's victory over Gunter (10-2) and put the Bearcats (10-1) in the region final against Winnsboro.

Jarman Johnson scored both touchdowns for Pilot Point a 67-yard interception return in the first quarter and a one-yard scoring run late in the third quarter.

Gunter got short touchdown runs from Brad Cross in the second quarter and Jordan Foster with 9:24 left in the game but wasn't able to hang on to the ball for a potential game-winning field goal. Ultimately the difference in the game was Pilot Point's decision to go for two on its first touchdown and Gunter having an extra point blocked.

2A -DII Callisburg 42, DeKalb 21

Callisburg (8-4) used a big second quarter to continue the best playoff run in school history with a victory over DeKalb (6-6) to move into the region semifinals against Grandview.

After trailing by a touchdown after the first quarter, Bobby Dorman had a four-yard run to tie the score and then Thor Long threw three touchdown passes Quincy Hough, Kevin Bartley and Clayton Love each caught one in the final seven minutes of the second quarter.

Love caught another score from Long in the third quarter and added a running touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

DeKalb ran the ball 54 times but gained only 232 yards. John Hodges started the scoring for the Bears and Zach Jones added two one-yard scoring runs.

2A -DII Pottsboro 29, Omaha Paul Pewitt 15

Adrian Dabrio ran for 225 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries as Pottsboro (11-1) defeated Paul Pewitt (9-2) to advance to the region semifinals against Caddo Mills.

Blake Towery added a pair of touchdown runs and 111 yards on 18 carries as Pottsboro continued its best playoff push since 1987. The Cardinals ran for 336 yards on 48 carries.

D.J. Burleson put Pewitt on the board in the first quarter with a three-yard touchdown run but the Brahmas stayed scoreless until Jerome Whetstone caught a touchdown pass from Jordan McFarland with 7:25 left in the game.
