Five players suspended from campus brawl

As expected, the Seminole football team took a hit from Wednesday's campus brawl.

In a statement issued through Florida State's Sports Information Office, head coach Bobby Bowden announced the suspensions of five wide receivers stemming from a fight that occurred between several FSU players and members of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.

"The police report has not been concluded but from the information that I have gathered, I am suspending five players who were apparently involved in the fray. Taiwan Easterling, Bert Reed, Corey Surrency, Cameron Wade and Richard Goodman will all be suspended for the Boston College game."

Goodman was not expected to play this season and Wade has only caught one pass in his college career. But the losses of Easterling, Surrency and Reed could have a major impact on the Seminole offense this weekend. Though the first nine games of the season, the suspended trio have accounted for nearly 50 percent of the offense by the wide receivers.

Offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher commented on the situation late on Friday afternoon and how it affected his preparation with his wide receiver corps for the game against Boston College.

"We are going to play with the guys available like we do each and every week and be prepared to face a very good Boston College team," Fisher said.

The good news for Fisher, is that primary starters Preston Parker and Greg Carr, as well as key backup Rod Owens, should be able carry the load for the receiving corps against Boston College.
