Upsets shake up Rivals.com 120 at 1:20

At 1:20 p.m. ET each Monday, Rivals.com releases the 120 at 1:20, Mike Huguenin's ranking of every major college football team in the nation.

Mike Huguenin is the college sports editor for Rivals.com.
He can be heard on Rivals Radio every Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. ET and can be reached at mhuguenin@rivals.com.
Here are our second 1-120 rankings of the season.

The weekend provided a big shakeup, from the top the new No. 1 is Texas to the bottom the new No. 120 is North Texas.

How do we come up with the rankings? A few things stand out: We take into account who a team has beaten and where; we generally take a "what-have-you-done-for-me-lately" attitude and as a tiebreaker it's who we think would win on a neutral field.

Mike Huguenin's 120 at 1:20
1. TEXAS (6-0)
THE BUZZ: The Longhorns did a reasonably good job in defending Sam Bradford last week. This week, they get Chase Daniel. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Missouri.
2. ALABAMA (6-0)
THE BUZZ: The Tide had a bye last week and watched as three teams in the top five suffered their first losses. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Ole Miss.
3. PENN STATE (7-0)
THE BUZZ: The Nittany Lions are riding high and have a showdown with Ohio State on Oct. 25. First, though, they have to play some middling Big Ten team. Who is it? Oh, yeah, it's the Michigan Wolverines. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Michigan.
4. OKLAHOMA (5-1)
THE BUZZ: The Sooners better bounce back quickly or the Jayhawks could take advantage. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Kansas.
5. FLORIDA (5-1)
THE BUZZ: The Gators controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball against LSU. You'd have thought the opponent was Louisiana-Monroe the way the Gators were running the ball. NEXT: Oct. 25, vs. Kentucky.
6. USC (4-1)
THE BUZZ: You think Pete Carroll tosses and turns at night remembering that inexplicable loss to Oregon State? NEXT: Saturday, at Washington State.
7. TEXAS TECH (6-0)
THE BUZZ: The Red Raiders were less than impressive in squeezing past Nebraska. The defense still looks to have issues. NEXT: Saturday, at Texas A&M.
8. GEORGIA (5-1)
THE BUZZ: The Bulldogs' defense looked in fine form last week. Then again, it was just Tennessee. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Vanderbilt.
THE BUZZ: OK, so who was supposed to be the untested team playing against a leading Heisman contender? The Cowboys looked good in winning at Missouri. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Baylor.
10. UTAH (7-0)
THE BUZZ: The Utes are just biding their time until they meet TCU on Nov. 6. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Colorado State.
11. BYU (6-0)
THE BUZZ: Thursday's game in Fort Worth is dangerous for the Cougars, who slogged past New Mexico on Saturday. NEXT: Thursday, at TCU.
12. MISSOURI (5-1)
THE BUZZ: If the Tigers don't watch out, a season that looked extremely promising last week could go up in smoke rather quickly. NEXT: Saturday, at Texas.
13. OHIO STATE (6-1)
THE BUZZ: The Buckeyes did not look good on offense in sleepwalking past Purdue. They better wake up this week. NEXT: Saturday, at Michigan State.
14. LSU (4-1)
THE BUZZ: The Tigers left Gainesville with their tails between their legs after last week's 30-point beatdown. What happened to that rough-and-tough LSU defensive line? NEXT: Saturday, at South Carolina.
15. CALIFORNIA (4-1)
THE BUZZ: A win this week by the Golden Bears would mean they're the only legit challenger to USC in the Pac-10. NEXT: Saturday, at Arizona.
THE BUZZ: TB Javon Ringer has played well, no doubt. But the Spartans can't be one-dimensional if they want to win this week. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Ohio State.
17. BOISE STATE (5-0)
THE BUZZ: Friday's game matches the past two BCS "interlopers." This season, one is good and the other isn't. NEXT: Friday, vs. Hawaii.
THE BUZZ: You think Frank Beamer has had second thoughts about not playing Tyrod Taylor in the season-opening loss to East Carolina? NEXT: Saturday, at Boston College.
THE BUZZ: The offense isn't great, but turnovers have been a huge deal for the opportunistic Tar Heels. NEXT: Saturday, at Virginia.
20. PITTSBURGH (4-1)
THE BUZZ: The Panthers are coming off a bye week after a big win and need to be ready this week. The Midshipmen beat them last season. NEXT: Saturday, at Navy.
THE BUZZ: The Bulls have had a week off to forget about their home loss to Pitt. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Syracuse.
22. KANSAS (5-1)
THE BUZZ: KU coach Mark Mangino is a former assistant to Bob Stoops at OU. NEXT: Saturday, at Oklahoma.
23. WAKE FOREST (4-1)
THE BUZZ: The Demon Deacons are in the driver's seat in the ACC Atlantic Division. NEXT: Saturday, at Maryland.
24. GEORGIA TECH (5-1)
THE BUZZ: The Jackets had to sweat out a three-point win over Gardner-Webb. Next up is a reeling Clemson team. NEXT: Saturday, at Clemson.
25. TCU (6-1)
THE BUZZ: The Horned Frogs' secondary looked awful against Oklahoma earlier this season. It had better be ready Thursday night. NEXT: Thursday, vs. BYU.
26. TULSA (6-0)
THE BUZZ: The Golden Hurricane had to rally past SMU. When you're trying to get national attention, struggling against the Mustangs is not the way to go about it. NEXT: Saturday, vs. UTEP.
THE BUZZ: If the Seminoles want to stay in the race in the ACC Atlantic Division, they can't afford a loss to the Wolfpack. NEXT: Thursday, at North Carolina State.
28. BALL STATE (7-0)
THE BUZZ: The Cardinals looked sluggish in getting past Western Kentucky. They can use their bye week to get refocused. NEXT: Oct. 25, vs. Eastern Michigan.
29. CINCINNATI (5-1)
THE BUZZ: Once again, no one is talking about the Bearcats' chances to win the Big East. NEXT: Oct. 25, at Connecticut.
30. NOTRE DAME (4-2)
THE BUZZ: The Irish can use their bye week to practice not laughing when someone asks them about Tyrone Willingham's Washington squad. NEXT: Oct. 25, at Washington.
31. VANDERBILT (5-1)
THE BUZZ: Oh, well, it was fun while it lasted. Now, instead of dreaming about New Year's Day bowls, the Commodores and their fans once again can start to discuss how Nietzsche influenced Sartre. NEXT: Saturday, at Georgia.
THE BUZZ: The Gamecocks' defense could cause some problems for LSU's offense. But can the Gamecocks' offense do anything? NEXT: Saturday, vs. LSU.
THE BUZZ: As recently as two seasons ago, a lot of folks were saying that Rutgers had zoomed past UConn in relevance. It's funny about hindsight, isn't it? NEXT: Saturday, at Rutgers.
34. OREGON (5-2)
THE BUZZ: The Ducks still are in line to get a "nice" bowl bid, assuming they don't stumble more than once the rest of the way. NEXT: Oct. 25, at Arizona State.
35. OREGON STATE (3-3)
THE BUZZ: The Beavers pounded Washington State last week and get Washington this week. Forget the "out-of-the-frying-pan, into-the-fire" adage; with those teams back-to-back, it's more like, "We're out of the prime rib, so you have to eat lobster." NEXT: Saturday, at Washington.
36. KENTUCKY (4-2)
THE BUZZ: That 4-0 start is now a memory. What that means, of course, is that fans now can turn their attention to basketball. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Arkansas.
37. MINNESOTA (6-1)
THE BUZZ: The Golden Gophers were 1-11 last season; this season, they'll be going bowling. NEXT: Oct. 25, at Purdue.
THE BUZZ: The Wildcats need to rebound quickly to make sure that 5-0 start doesn't turn into a 7-5 or 6-6 finish. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Purdue.
39. ILLINOIS (3-3)
THE BUZZ: Juice Williams had another big game against a Big Ten foe. This time, though, the Illini lost. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Indiana.
40. WISCONSIN (3-3)
THE BUZZ: The Badgers had been a sleeper contender for the Big Ten crown. Now, the best they can hope for looks to be an Alamo Bowl bid. NEXT: Saturday, at Iowa.
41. FRESNO STATE (4-2)
THE BUZZ: The Bulldogs scored a lot of points against Idaho last week. The problem? They also gave up a lot of points to Idaho. NEXT: Oct. 25, at Utah State.
THE BUZZ: Before the season, the Mountaineers' game against Auburn looked to be a big one. Now? You'll just shrug your shoulders and see what else is on TV. NEXT: Oct. 23, vs. Auburn.
THE BUZZ: Star QB Dan LeFevour missed part of last week's win over Temple with a bum ankle. The Chippewas need him at 100 percent this week. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Western Michigan.
44. MARYLAND (4-2)
THE BUZZ: The Terps had a bye week to rebound from their big loss to Virginia. They certainly can mess up Wake's season this week. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Wake Forest.
45. AUBURN (4-3)
THE BUZZ: You'd think that with all of Tommy Tuberville's coaching experience, he would know that playing offense not only is legal but also encouraged in college football. NEXT: Oct. 23, at West Virginia.
46. NAVY (4-2)
THE BUZZ: The Midshipmen had a bye last weekend. Presumably, they watched tape of their win over Pitt last season, when they ran all over the Panthers. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Pittsburgh.
47. IOWA (4-3)
THE BUZZ: The Hawkeyes blasted Indiana last week and will look to add to Wisconsin's miseries this weekend. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Wisconsin.
48. LOUISVILLE (3-2)
THE BUZZ: This week's game will be the fifth home contest of the season for the Cardinals, who play just four road games. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Middle Tennessee.
49. PURDUE (2-4)
THE BUZZ: Curtis Painter became the fourth Big Ten quarterback to throw for 10,000 career yards. As you'd expect, he reached the milestone in another loss to a "good" team. NEXT: Saturday, at Northwestern.
50. CLEMSON (3-3)
THE BUZZ: Looking for some kind of spark for his offense, Tommy Bowden has benched starting QB Cullen Harper, who has followed up his superb performance in 2007 with a horrible 2008. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Georgia Tech.
51. STANFORD (4-3)
THE BUZZ: You have to like Stanford's chances to go bowling if it can win Saturday against the mediocre Bruins. NEXT: Saturday, at UCLA.
52. OLE MISS (3-3)
THE BUZZ: Ole Miss upset one top-five team at home when it beat Florida last month. Can Houston Nutt's team turn that trick twice in one season? NEXT: Saturday, at Alabama.
53. ARIZONA (4-2)
THE BUZZ: Last week's loss to Stanford was big, considering the Wildcats have California and USC in the next two weeks. NEXT: Saturday, vs. California.
54. AIR FORCE (4-2)
THE BUZZ: This week's game likely is a must-win if the Falcons want to finish in the top four in the Mountain West. NEXT: Saturday, at UNLV.
THE BUZZ: BC has done a nice job so far surviving life without Matt Ryan. Now, though, things begin to get difficult. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Virginia Tech.
56. NEBRASKA (3-3)
THE BUZZ: The Huskers acquitted themselves well in a loss at Texas Tech last week. Iowa State shouldn't be near as tough a test. NEXT: Saturday, at Iowa State.
57. HOUSTON (3-3)
THE BUZZ: The Cougars play their next two on the road, against SMU and Marshall. NEXT: Saturday, at SMU.
58. ARKANSAS (3-3)
THE BUZZ: The Hogs' three wins have come by a combined eight points. The three losses have been by a combined 108. NEXT: Saturday, at Kentucky.
THE BUZZ: It's official: The Sun Devils' season is spinning out of control. NEXT: Oct. 25, vs. Oregon.
60. MIAMI (3-3)
THE BUZZ: The Hurricanes' offense remains a work in progress, and two of the next three are on the road. NEXT: Saturday, at Duke.
THE BUZZ: The Broncos have won six in a row, and a win at CMU would put Western in a good position to win the MAC West. NEXT: Saturday, at Central Michigan.
62. COLORADO (3-3)
THE BUZZ: The Buffs have lost three in a row and need to get the offensive kinks worked out. Quickly. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Kansas State.
THE BUZZ: That 3-0 start looks farther and farther away in the rear-view mirror. Didn't ECU have a hot coach at one time, too? NEXT: Saturday, vs. Memphis.
64. MICHIGAN (2-4)
THE BUZZ: Toledo? NEXT: Saturday, at Penn State.
65. BUFFALO (2-4)
THE BUZZ: It wouldn't be a surprise if the Bulls are favored in every game the rest of the way. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Army.
66. UCLA (2-4)
THE BUZZ: The Bruins' bowl hopes are a long shot as it is. A loss this week and those hopes would be gone. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Stanford.
67. TENNESSEE (2-4)
THE BUZZ: You'd think that with all of Phillip Fulmer's coaching experience, he would know that playing offense not only is legal but also encouraged in college football. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Mississippi State.
68. DUKE (3-2)
THE BUZZ: If the offense can muster anything this week, the game with Miami could be mighty interesting. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Miami.
THE BUZZ: Hey, we're seeing a pattern here. The Falcons' schedule the rest of the way goes home game, road game, home game, road game, home game, road game. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Miami University.
70. BAYLOR (3-3)
THE BUZZ: True freshman QB Robert Griffin makes Baylor games watchable, something that hasn't been the case of late. NEXT: Saturday, at Oklahoma State.
71. VIRGINIA (3-3)
THE BUZZ: The Cavs' offense evidently has received a wakeup call. Can it stay awake? NEXT: Saturday, vs. North Carolina.
THE BUZZ: The Rams play three of their next four on the road and the only home game in that span is against BYU. NEXT: Saturday, at Utah.
73. N.C. STATE (2-4)
THE BUZZ: Thursday's game is the fourth home contest in a row for the Wolfpack, which has lost two of them. NEXT: Thursday, vs. Florida State.
74. TEMPLE (2-5)
THE BUZZ: The Owls' next game will be just their second contest at home since Sept. 6. NEXT: Oct. 21, vs. Ohio.
THE BUZZ: The Bulldogs' offense is atrocious. The good news for them is that their last game (a win over Vanderbilt) was against a team with a pitiful offense and their next game is against a team with a pitiful offense. NEXT: Saturday, at Tennessee.
76. NEW MEXICO (3-4)
THE BUZZ: The Lobos have scored just 42 points in their four losses. NEXT: Saturday, vs. San Diego State.
77. UNLV (3-3)
THE BUZZ: The Runnin' Rebels' next three opponents are a combined 16-3. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Air Force.
78. WASHINGTON (0-5)
THE BUZZ: The Huskies have given up 17 TD passes and have just two interceptions and three sacks. They also allow 233.4 rushing yards per game. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Oregon State.
79. KANSAS STATE (4-2)
THE BUZZ: Yes, the Wildcats have a nice record. But they've beaten no one unless you count Texas A&M. NEXT: Saturday, at Colorado.
80. IOWA STATE (2-4)
THE BUZZ: The Cyclones have lost four in a row, but at least Saturday's loss (to Baylor) was the only one that hasn't been close. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Nebraska.
81. MARSHALL (3-3)
THE BUZZ: If Marshall wants to go a bowl, it would behoove the Thundering Herd to win this weekend. NEXT: Saturday, at UAB.
82. RICE (3-3)
THE BUZZ: This week's game will be just the second home game since Aug. 29 for the Owls. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Southern Miss.
83. MEMPHIS (3-4)
THE BUZZ: The Tigers, coming off a home loss to Louisville, play two of their next three games on the road. NEXT: Saturday, at East Carolina.
THE BUZZ: This week's game is a big one in the race for the Sun Belt title. It matches the nation's No. 1 (ULL) and No. 9 rushing offenses. NEXT: Saturday, at Louisiana-Lafayette.
85. NEVADA (3-3)
THE BUZZ: The Wolf Pack's defense was shredded by New Mexico State last week. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Utah State.
86. TROY (3-2)
THE BUZZ: Troy has a big one in the Sun Belt this week, but it will play with a new starting quarterback after Jamie Hampton was lost for the season with a knee injury. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Florida International.
87. TEXAS A&M (2-4)
THE BUZZ: The Aggies are 0-2 in the Big 12 for the first time. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Texas Tech.
88. INDIANA (2-4)
THE BUZZ: Weren't the Hoosiers supposed to have a good offense? They've scored 16 total points in the past two games. NEXT: Saturday, at Illinois.
THE BUZZ: Three of the Aggies' next four games are at home. If they can beat San Jose State this week, a bowl isn't out of the question. NEXT: Saturday, vs. San Jose State.
90. UTEP (3-3)
THE BUZZ: The Miners started 0-3 but have won three in a row since Conference USA play started. NEXT: Saturday, at Tulsa.
91. SAN JOSE STATE (4-2)
THE BUZZ: The Spartans aren't great on offense, but their defense has been solid. NEXT: Saturday, at New Mexico State.
THE BUZZ: The Golden Eagles play three of their next four on the road. NEXT: Saturday, at Rice.
93. AKRON (3-4)
THE BUZZ: Given the state of Eastern Michigan's defense, the Zips could score at least 30 points for the third week in a row. NEXT: Saturday, at Eastern Michigan.
THE BUZZ: "So close, and yet so far." The Huskies' three losses have come by a combined 11 points. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Toledo.
THE BUZZ: Ragin' Cajuns WR Jason Chery scored five touchdowns in last week's win over North Texas and all five came in the first half. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Arkansas State.
96. HAWAII (3-3)
THE BUZZ: The Warriors have won two in a row. We're betting that streak ends Friday. NEXT: Friday, at Boise State.
THE BUZZ: Our geographic rant of the week: How can a team in Louisiana be in the same conference as a team from Idaho? NEXT: Saturday, vs. Idaho.
98. TULANE (2-4)
THE BUZZ: RB Andre Anderson is having a great season. But like Matt Forte last season, he is doing it for a poor team. NEXT: Oct. 25, vs. Rice.
THE BUZZ: The Golden Panthers have won three in a row, which ties a school record. Don't laugh, but this week's game is huge in the Sun Belt race. NEXT: Saturday, at Troy.
100. RUTGERS (1-5)
THE BUZZ: The Scarlet Knights' victory is over Morgan State. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Connecticut.
101. TOLEDO (2-4)
THE BUZZ: The Rockets won at Michigan last week. This week, though, it's back to reality and another MAC loss. NEXT: Saturday, at Northern Illinois.
THE BUZZ: The Blue Raiders already have beaten one "Big Six" opponent (Maryland). Can they bag their second of the season? NEXT: Saturday, at Louisville.
103. SYRACUSE (1-5)
THE BUZZ: Syracuse kept it close in a loss to West Virginia. Can the Orange do the same this week against the Bulls? NEXT: Saturday, at South Florida.
104. WYOMING (2-5)
THE BUZZ: The Cowboys used four quarterbacks in last week's loss to Utah. None of them played well. NEXT: Oct. 25, at TCU.
105. UCF (2-4)
THE BUZZ: The Knights finished with 78 total yards in last week's loss to Miami. Seriously 78 yards. NEXT: Oct. 26, at Tulsa.
THE BUZZ: Before the season, a lot of folks thought Saturday's game would decide the MAC East title. As it turns out, a lot of folks were wrong. NEXT: Saturday, at Bowling Green.
107. ARMY (2-4)
THE BUZZ: "Passes? We don't need no stinkin' passes." The Black Knights didn't complete a pass in their win over Eastern Michigan. NEXT: Saturday, at Bowling Green.
108. OHIO (2-5)
THE BUZZ: Next week's game against Temple will be the Bobcats' third road contest in a row. NEXT: Oct. 21, at Temple.
109. SAN DIEGO STATE (1-5)
THE BUZZ: "Offense? What's that?" The Aztecs have scored 13 or fewer points in four games this season. NEXT: Saturday, at New Mexico.
THE BUZZ: Truth be told, the Cougars may be overrated at 110th. Hey, did Oregon State just score again? NEXT: Saturday, vs. USC.
THE BUZZ: The preseason favorite in the Sun Belt needs a miracle to win the league for the second season in a row. NEXT: Saturday, at Western Kentucky.
112. UTAH STATE (1-5)
THE BUZZ: The Aggies had their three-game WAC winning streak snapped last week. They likely will lose their second in a row this week. NEXT: Saturday, at Nevada.
113. UAB (1-6)
THE BUZZ: In last week's loss to Houston, the Blazers scored 20 first-half points but zero in the second. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Marshall.
THE BUZZ: Saturday's game could end up deciding who finishes last in the Sun Belt Conference. NEXT: Saturday, vs. North Texas.
THE BUZZ: This week's contest is the only home game in a six-game stretch for the Eagles. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Akron.
116. KENT STATE (1-6)
THE BUZZ: The Golden Flashes already have committed 17 turnovers. NEXT: Oct. 25, at Miami University.
THE BUZZ: The Hilltoppers need to find a way to play better offense. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Florida Atlantic.
118. SMU (1-6)
THE BUZZ: The Mustangs played Tulsa surprisingly tough. Sure, they lost, but at least they weren't blown out. NEXT: Saturday, vs. Houston.
119. IDAHO (1-6)
THE BUZZ: The Vandals have lost 12 in a row on the road. NEXT: Saturday, at Louisiana Tech.
120. NORTH TEXAS (0-6)
THE BUZZ: The Mean Green are last in the nation in scoring defense. NEXT: Saturday, at Louisiana-Monroe.
