Three stand out in initial 2011 ranking

RANKINGS: Top Ten for the Class of 2011 | Class of 2010 Rivals150 | Class of 2009 Rivals150

There are three prospects that currently stand above the rest in the Class of 2011.

Shooting guard LaQuinton Ross is a natural scorer at 6 feet 8 in the mold of present NBA stars Tracy McGrady and Kevin Durant. Anthony Wroten Jr. is a physically-dominant combo guard who conjures up thoughts of Dwayne Wade. And then Mike Gilchrist, who is young for his class and plays with an aggressive motor, could develop into a versatile Josh Howard-type player.

All three of these prospects could potentially be the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2011, but it is Ross who sits at the top spot in the initial Rivals.com Top Ten for the Class of 2011.

Top Ten for the Class of 2011
1. LaQuinton Ross, SG, Jackson (Miss.) Callaway
Not many players come along with Ross' length and skill set. At 6 feet 8, Ross is a great scorer with his ability to shoot from deep as well as slash to the basket. Capable of getting his shot off at will, Ross also has a great feel for passing. He is improving as a defender and rebounder as he continues to develop physically.
2. Anthony Wroten Jr., PG, Seattle Garfield
An electric athlete with great size for his position, Wroten has the ability to take a game over at any moment. Slashing to the basket is his forte, but he can also heat up from the outside. A physical point guard, he has excellent court vision and provides a formidable presence on both ends of the court.
3. Mike Gilchrist, SF, Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick
Young for his class, Gilchrist is an intriguing prospect with a lot of upside. An energetic player, he is dangerous offensively as a slasher and continually makes plays on defense. He has the length and skill level to play a variety of positions and projects as a solid outside shooter.
4. James McAdoo, PF, Norfolk (Va.) Norfolk Christian School
Long and skilled, McAdoo has a bright future as a hybrid forward. Defensively, McAdoo is an adept shot-blocker and rebounder. Offensively, he scores with his back to the basket but also has face-up skills.
5. Damien Leonard, SG, Greenville (S.C.) J. L. Mann
A bouncy athlete, Leonard is a big-time perimeter threat with a feathery jump shot. He can shoot with range and on the move. He is not just a shooter, though; he also has the skills to be a primary ballhandler.
6. Austin Rivers, PG, Winter Park, Fla.
Rivers has the total package as a combo guard. Possessing a high basketball IQ, Rivers has the ability to run a team and break down defenses. As a scorer, he can shoot it from deep and also has a reliable pull-up jumper.
7. Mike Shaw, PF, Chicago De La Salle
Both a physical and skilled forward, Shaw is a matchup problem with his ability to produce inside as well as make plays facing the basket. He has a feel for passing the ball, and defensively he has the versatility to defend multiple positions.
8. Marquis Teague, PG, Indianapolis Pike
A smooth ballhandler with a feel for changing gears, Teague is the type of point guard who gets the ball to whatever spot on the court he desires. While he's also a threat to score, it's his ability to distribute that makes Teague special.
9. Johnny O'Bryant, PF, Cleveland (Miss.) East Side
Blessed with an imposing physique, O'Bryant is a raw talent who plays with as strong a motor as any big man in the class. A dangerous rebounder who runs the court extremely well, he has the potential to be a quality interior scorer as he develops.
10. Jamal Branch, PG, Houston Atascocita
A silky-smooth combo guard who possesses an athletic burst, Branch is developing into a high-level point guard. A natural scorer, he can also play the role of a distributor. On defense, Branch gets his hands on the basketball quite a bit with his athleticism and anticipation.
