Foster is one consistent Commodore

Rivals.com Power Rankings by Position: PG | SG | SF | PF | C | Head Coach

There may be better players in college basketball than Vanderbilt senior Shan Foster, but nobody has been more consistent.

Foster has scored in double figures in every game while propelling the Commodores to a school-best 15-0 start. He has yet to be held under 15 points and has reached the 20-point barrier in 10 games. He had a season-high 32 points in Saturday's 97-88 win over Massachusetts.

Foster has been accurate along the way, shooting below 40 percent in just one game he went 4-of-11 (36.3 percent) from the field in an 87-78 win over Valparaiso. He ranks third in the nation in 3-point field-goal percentage at 53.3 percent (65-of-122).

Those stellar stats and steady production has led to a climb to the No. 1 spot among shooting guards in Rivals.com's latest power rankings. Foster overtook Indiana freshman star Eric Gordon, who had been atop the rankings for seven consecutive weeks.

North Carolina sophomore Wayne Ellington moved to No. 4 among shooting guards after carrying the Tar Heels to a 90-88 win in overtime at Clemson on Sunday. Ellington hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds left in overtime and scored a career-high 36 points.

UMass' Gary Forbes (No. 10) jumped into the top 10 of the small forward rankings. Forbes is averaging 20.9 points and 7.6 rebounds for the 11-3 Minutemen.

Texas sophomore Damion James, who was not in the rankings two weeks ago, has moved up to No. 18 among the power forwards. James scored a career-high 29 points and had 14 rebounds and five blocks in a 67-59 win over TCU on Wednesday.

Syracuse junior Arinze Onuaku is making his debut at No. 20 among the centers. Onuaku has been a steady force in the paint, averaging 14.5 points and 8.2 rebounds. There are now six centers from the Big East in the rankings. The rating of a player and coach can fluctuate each week during the season depending on how they fared the previous week, but the power rankings measure overall career performances as well as their most recent results. By the end of the season, our power rankings should provide an accurate indicator of which players and coaches were the best at their respective positions.
