Tebow moves back to top of power rankings
• Rivals.com Power Rankings by Position:
QB | RB | WR | TE | OL | DL | LB | DB | ST | Coaches: Head Coach | Off. Coordinator | Def. Coordinator
Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon and Florida quarterback Tim Tebow have turned the Heisman Trophy race into their own head-to-head competition, so it only figures they also would continue trading the top spot in the Rivals.com Power Rankings.
Tebow's seven-touchdown performance in a 51-31 victory over South Carolina last weekend allowed him to regain his status as the No. 1 quarterback in our power rankings, which measure the top players and coaches at each position.
Tebow went 22 of 32 for 304 yards and two touchdowns through the air while also carrying the ball 26 times for 120 yards and five touchdowns. That allowed Tebow to overtake Dixon, who had the week off.
Beckum caught six passes for 106 yards and a touchdown in a 37-21 triumph over Michigan to move ahead of Missouri's Martin Rucker, who had six catches for 54 yards in a 40-26 victory over Texas A&M.
Talib made his fourth interception of the season Saturday as Kansas defeated Oklahoma State 43-28 to remain unbeaten. Talib regained the No. 1 spot from Ohio State's Malcolm Jenkins, whose team lost 28-21 to Illinois.
Ohio State's first loss of the season also caused a couple of the Buckeyes' coaches to fall from the top of the rankings. LSU's rise to the top of the Bowl Championship Series standings allowed Les Miles to supplant Ohio State's Jim Tressel as our No. 1 head coach. Virginia Tech's Bud Foster replaced Ohio State's Jim Heacock as the top defensive coordinator.
Players and coaches remaining atop the rankings at their respective positions were Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree, Michigan offensive lineman Jake Long, LSU defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey, Penn State linebacker Dan Connor and Oregon offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
The rating of a player and coach can fluctuate each week during the season depending on how they fared the previous week, but the power rankings measure overall career performances as well as their most recent results.
By the end of the season, our power rankings should provide an accurate indicator of which players and coaches were the best at their respective positions.
