Big East Week 6 Recap
Ben Mauk threw three touchdown passes and the defense forced four turnovers as the Bearcats won 28-23 at Rutgers. The final turnover was an interception by LB Ryan Manalac with 1:19 left after Rutgers had moved to the Bearcats' 17. Cincinnati has won nine games in a row.
Next: Saturday, vs. Louisville.
The Huskies were off last week.
Next: Saturday, at Virginia.
The Cardinals' defense was shredded again, giving up 582 yards in a 44-35 home loss to Utah. Louisville has lost back-to-back home games for the first time since 1999. Brian Brohm threw for 467 yards and four TDs, but he couldn't overcome the porous Louisville defense. Louisville trailed by 20 early in the fourth quarter before making things a bit interesting.
Next: Saturday, at Cincinnati.
The Panthers were off last week.
Next: Wednesday, vs. Navy.
The Scarlet Knights turned it over four times in losing 28-23 to visiting Cincinnati. It was Rutgers' second home loss in a row. Mike Teel threw for 334 yards but also tossed three interceptions. Ray Rice ran for 94 yards and a TD, which gave him a school-record 35 for his career. Rutgers led 17-7 at halftime.
Next: Saturday, at Syracuse.
The Orange fell behind 31-7 at halftime and ended up losing 55-14 to visiting West Virginia. It was the most lopsided loss in coach Greg Robinson's three seasons. WVU was 10 of 15 on third-down conversions.
Next: Saturday, vs. Rutgers.
South Florida
A strong rushing attack helped the Bulls stave off host Florida Atlantic's upset bid in a 35-23 victory. Benjamin Williams ran for 186 yards and four TDs, including the clincher with 29 seconds left. QB Matt Grothe added 120 rushing yards and a score. FAU missed three field goals.
Next: Saturday, vs. UCF.
West Virginia
Coach Rich Rodriguez got his 100th career victory as the Mountaineers hammered host Syracuse 55-14. FB Owen Schmitt scored his first two touchdowns of the season and DT Keilen Dykes returned an interception 19 yards for another score. QB Pat White left the game in the third quarter with a shoulder injury. Before leaving, White scored a rushing TD and also threw a TD pass.
Next: Oct. 20, vs. Mississippi State.
