Alexander picks FSU
A.J. Alexander is one of the top prospects in the Keystone State in the class of 2008, but will head south to play his college ball.Altoona [Pa.] athlete
"I committed to Florida State yesterday," said Alexander. "I've known it for a little bit but the time just felt right."
Alexander informed the Seminole staff of his decision yesterday in a phone call to coach Rick Trickett.
"I didn't talk to coach Bowden," said Alexander. "I only talked to coach Trickett because I didn't call them when they were in the office. I just called coach Trickett. He said that's great and he called coach Lilly and I talked to him that night.
Alexander explained why he picked the Noles over offers from Penn State, Pittsburgh Georgia and Notre Dame, among others.
"The stuff that they're going to be doing the next couple years and I liked their offensive style," said Alexander. "They said I'm a big pickup for them because they don't have that Antwoine Smith-type guy. They see me catching the ball in the flats, returning kicks and running the ball."
The likely four-star prospect does not plan on taking any other official visits besides one to Tallahassee. He said that he would try to make it to most of the Seminoles home games.
Alexander said that his mother, with whom he is very close, is pleased with his decision to head south.
"She's real happy she loves it down there too," said Alexander. "Plus my grandparents are going to move down to Florida so they'll be close if I need anything at all."
Alexander took home a silver medal in the 100-meter dash at the PIAA state championships on Saturday. He just missed the gold by one-hundredth of a second.
