SCVarsity.com Class of 2008 Top Five FB Players

A.J. Green WR, 6-4, 184, Summerville High School

This is not a big surprise. A.J. Green has been turning heads since his freshman year, where he impressed everyone as one of the top receivers in the state. Green runs very good routes and understands how to get leverage on the defensive backs. He's got soft hands and positions himself well in contested receptions. Best of all, the kid has incredible vertical ability and will rarely - if ever - lose the jump ball. Athletically, he runs smooth, has great hips, and very good control of his body.

He is committed to Georgia, but the latest on the rumor mill is that the interest he has generated in basketball could cause his recruiting to open back up.

DaQuan Bowers, DE, 6-4, 267, Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School

Mdefinitely one of the nation's top players at his position. He has a 395-pound bench press max and a 595-pound squat. This season, he led his team in nearly every defensive category including tackles, tackles for loss and sacks. He was a consensus Class 2A All-State selection.

He's solid on the offensive side of the ball too, running the ball from the fullback spot.

He is a solid committment to Clemson, where he will join former teammate Ricky Sapp.

Kenneth Page, OL, 6-5, 268, A.C. Flora High School

Believe everything you're reading about this one, folks; this kid is for real. He is the top offensive lineman prospect in the state of South Carolina and is one of the best in the country. He's strong (320 bench, 450 squat) and can can flat pick 'em up and put 'em down with 4.88 speed.

He's a track star as well (Shot Put) and is the middle of a quest for a state title in that event. He has offers from Clemson, South Carolina, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. Calls from Notre Dame came this week and the big man could see an offer from the Irish soon.

Robert Quinn, DE, 6-5, 245, Fort Dorchester High School

How many defensive ends can this state continue to produce? There seems to be a wealth of talent at that position and Quinn helps that arguement. Extremely athletic, Quinn has played linebacker for the Patriots during his career, but is a strongside DE prospect. He collected 80 tackles and 6 sacks this past season.

Andre Ellington, RB, 6-0, 180, Berkeley High School

Explosive, fast, elusive, powerful. Four pretty good adjectives to describe the state's top running back. We got a preview of this young man during his sophomore season where he displayed scorching speed on the track and gridiron, and again last Summer during scrimmages against Lexington and Irmo. This past season, Ellington rushed for more than 1,600 yards and if you want to be impressed, check his film out in the Varsity Underground Message Board.

Right now, he's a sleeper player with no offers but I personally feel he's the best running back the state has seen since Demetris Summers. He's solid in the Top Ten of South Carolina and will turn the heads of recruiters very soon. Look for offers during the evaluation period.

SCVarsity.com will begin releaseing our Top Fifty Players very soon! Stay tuned to see the top players in the state!.
