Harris in action
Da'John Harris is the No. 4-ranked player in California, yet he still has a point to prove.
Rivals.com is going to give him a chance. Harris has been selected to play in the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl on Jan. 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The game will be carried live on ESPNU.
"At first I didn't think I was going to be selected to play in any all-star games," Harris said. "I was sitting here waiting and waiting for somebody to invite me to play in a game, and then you guys from Rivals came and delivered me an invitation in person. That really meant a lot to me and showed me how special this game is going to be.
Harris, the No. 33 player and No. 3 defensive tackle in the nation, will be joined in Florida by his teammate and close friend Anthony Boyles, who was selected to play receiver for the West squad.
"We're pumped about it," Harris said. "This game is a great opportunity for the both of us. We were looking the other day at all the players that have been selected to play in the game, and it's going to be a real honor to play with these guys. But Anthony and me still want to show what we've got.
"We were talking about how many touchdowns Anthony's going to score and how many sacks I'm going to get. We're really pumped up about it."
Harris said he plans to bring a big cheering section with him.
"This is a special opportunity," Harris said.
Harris has already taken one official visit to Michigan and said he's about "70 percent sure" he's going to take a visit this weekend with Boyles to Arizona. He also has USC high on his list, along with heavy interest from Miami, Nebraska, Oregon, UCLA, Washington and numerous others.
Serra won 14-10 this past Friday night in the first round of the CIF playoffs against El Segundo. Harris and Boyles now face off against Oak Park this week.
